Sorry I’m a bit late starting today. It is very stormy here. Yellow alert wind warning ⚠️ and wind speeds are very strong. I’m going to leave my run for today and do it tomorrow instead.
I hope the weather is better where you are. Enjoy your runs everyone and I look forward to reading all the run reports. For anyone new to this, a group of us here run 5K at the weekend and pretend it’s a parkrun. Not of course it’s not really, it is a (not)parkrun. You can run, jog or walk. Everyone is welcome to join in, just like the real thing.
Happy running everyone,
Damien

Hi damienair and running friends. Sorry the weather’s not good for you Damien, but very sensible to stay at home and be safe.👍
I did my (not) Parkrun at Bognor Regis this morning. I think I mentioned previously that we’ve got a Parkrun club at work. We organised a virtual 5K relay race this morning with 3 runners in each team🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♀️ I led off for my team so I didn’t want to let the others down. There was a strong wind on the seafront but luckily it was from the south and I was running east to west so I wasn’t really affected by it😊 I ran under 6:00/km for each of my 5 km and finished in 28:25, which is my best time this year I think🙂 I’m pleased with that!😀
Good afternoon Damien, if it's not the ice or snow, it's the wind and rain which stops us from going out, I hope the weather improves for your run tomorrow.
I had to WALK for the first time ever my 49th virtual /36th (not parkrun) this morning, I have a touch of sciatica on my right leg and it's still a bit sore if I walk fast, let alone run, BUT that won't stop me next weekend doing that magic No. 50 even if I have to walk it again.
You are correct Doris8, up to last December all my 5K runs have been sub 35 minute times, my average time is 33.30, I tried to run this morning, managed 1K in 9.02, usually my first 1K is 6.30, after that I just walked the remaining 4K.
I will just have to be patient and hope the soreness/sciatica will go away, it's only sore when I run, in the meantime I will walk the Saturday morning's (not) parkrun as I did this morning.
I hope so Beatlesforever, it is only sore when I try to run or walk fast, hopefully if I don't run or walk fast the soreness will go. 😊 Remember in parkruns, whether not parkruns or official ones you can walk, jog or run, unlike the later runs of C25K when you have to run, W3R5 to run 3 of week 9
Thanks Week7, I will definitely do it next week, whether it's a walk as today, it will be my 50th virtual parkrun which began on 21st March 2020, however, the official (not) parkruns started on June 20th, which will be No. 37.
Thanks Sandraj39, I hope so too, this morning when I walked my 49th virtual 5K "run" I saw more runners about than I have seen this year, a lot to do with the milder weather..
Well done Al. I ended up doing my run yesterday. It was a beautiful Spring morning. My wife went away to look after her Dad for the day so I was with our 2 boys. I took them off to a park, cooked dinner, made a Cider for the Summer and a few other bits and bobs. My run was a mix of running, jogging and walking. I hope your Sciatica gets better for you soon.
Thanks Damien, it's not so bad this morning but I wouldn't want to try and run yet, perhaps on Saturday I'll try a short run with the walking and see how it goes
43:57. Not bad for me and a lot (50 seconds) faster than last week plus it was my slightly harder route. Lots of fair weather runners out today!
I tried to look for the shade today , as it was quite warm with the sun out. What a difference to last weekend! Not quite Texas temperature variance but still! I am not complaining about the sun!
Odd to think that I thought it would be my slowest so I wasn't really going for a quick one whereas it was only 35 seconds off my fastest and 22 seconds off my fastest for this route.
PLUS I did another 13 minutes to get to just under 6.5K, so I went over my 55 minutes target. Next week will be 60 minutes and I will save myself until the week after to get to my 7K target.
Hi damienair, thanks for posting this, breezy here but mild at 11 degrees we had a great run this morning and 5k covered for the (not) park run Enjoy your run tomorrow
Hi! Good idea to wait for better weather.. Hope tomorrow will be nice!
I did 5k this morning, and was kinda slow compared to other weeks, but anyway... Had been feeling a bit tired and a bit stressed the last few days so maybe that didn't help.
Glad to have got out in the fresh air anyway.
Went about half an hour later than usual, and I was amazed how many other runners there were! Also that most looked like relative beginners too, not super fit professional types!!! Nice to feel part of the team, even though total strangers😁
Very well done. I was the same as you. A little tired after the week. But I enjoyed getting out for a run. I ended up running, jogging and walking my way around the 5K.
Hi Everyone, first time I have posted on (not) park run. I did a good time today 30mins, it is a lovely day here the sun is out and a slight wind. I done the run with my brother socially distanced round our local park. I hope weather improves Damienair so you can get out tomorrow.
Welcome Nicky. Great to have you on board. Sorry I am only replying to you now. I took a decision to step away from my phone and computer this weekend. I was doing a Tender last week and had the need for a break from Technology. So I am just catching up now. Great running and very well done on your 30 minute 5K. Looking forward to having you with us next weekend.
Oh this winter weather! Will it never calm down? Hope you are able to get out tomorrow 🤞
It was windy and spitty here but possibly the warmest day this year so I was able to wear my cropped running leggings at last.
It was our parkrun’s 5th birthday so we had a Strava/Facebook event and ‘get together’ of sorts. There was even a ‘happy birthday’ banner at the pavilion in the park. I took the opportunity to wear my non-COVID apricot for the first time since the last tourist run exactly a year ago.
Today was also my first post-vaccine (not)parkrun and the first since having it on Tuesday that I’ve felt 100% (sore arm & tiredness only really). All I can say is that Bill Gates, thank you very much! Your nanotechnology has helped me get another pb! 26:47, can’t quite believe it really!
Oh wow. Congratulations TailChaser , that is fantastic. I am absolutely delighted for you. Super running and super speedy 26:47 PB. Brillian job and well done.
Thanks Damien 😃, I remembered I was edging towards sub 27 this time last year, I was getting faster each parkrun but then it all got mucked up by the pandemic. However, I think I'm in a better place this year as the weekly run is much tougher and I've got more core and leg strength. My legs seem to like this time of year for some strange reason!
It is good to be back reporting on a Saturday 5k, albeit a weird one! I met a seasoned runner I know a couple of hundred yards away from my normal starting point; he said “why not jog along together up to the car park?” So I ran about 1k with him, a tad faster than I had planned. He peeled off into the car park, at which point I realised that I hadn’t set my watch!🙄 I stopped, set it, and then ran a couple of k into a strong wind. I turned around and it still felt as though I was running into the wind! I clocked up 3k, then followed instructions to walk for a period, rather than stretching, if my calf plays up. I finally re-set my watch, ran the final 1k, stretched off the calf and it felt really good. I just need to forget about anything other nursing my calf until it is fixed...but 5k run completed, after a fashion.🙂
Hi Damien and pals! 👋 For the second weekend in a row I was tempted to knock today’s run on the head and stay home. The wind was howling, the rain was on and off and I wondered why I’d choose to go out slipping and sliding on the mud whilst being buffeted from every angle. Why did I go? Because, like last weekend in the cold, I knew I’d be cross with myself if I didn’t. 🙄
Walking up to the start it was horrendous. Rain stinging my eyes, wind full on in my face. Pressed start on my watch and went into autopilot. Bizarrely it felt easy today and I was able to tune out the wind for the most part. I didn’t attempt any kind of speed or intervals and before I knew it I’d run a pleasant 5k in a very comfortable 38:05.
I’m so happy I went. I knew I would be! But I’d like proper spring now please! 😅
It’s been way worse Jonathan! The wind was being somewhat helpful by preventing the ground becoming waterlogged, so the footing didn’t sap my energy too much. 😀
Very well done Cheeky. I went out yesterday morning. It was a lovely Spring morning. Your made of tougher stuff than me. I just could not face 80 km/hour winds and rain. Although saying that, if it was an actual parkrun I would have been out in any weather.
Oh believe me, if the wind had been 80kph here I’d have been firmly planted in the house Damien! Ours was a “gentle” 35kph - a mere breeze in comparison!
I did I had a lovely 5K run in nice Spring air, with blue sky as well. I went for a 5K this evening after work and Oisin joined me for the first time in months. He pulled me along and we had a lovely run.
Hi Damien and all (not) parkrunners, the weather couldn't be more different here on the South coast - it was so mild (and dry) I wore t-shirt and shorts for the first time in a while. Given that, I felt it would be a missed opportunity not to do 10k since the cold last week had put me off - so a very pleasant 10k down into the city and back along the foreshore.
I had done 5k in 28.39 on Thursday so that is my 'official' (not) parkrun for this week. Happy running all!
Hi Damienair and fellow virtual (not) parkrunners .
Hope the weather is better and you have a good run tomorrow Damienair.
The weather here was perfect for running this morning- damp and grey it looked like it was raining but it wasn't so not too many walkers to dodge! I feel Grinchlike saying that but it just makes running so much easier!
I am a very excited little runner today! I went for a 40 minute run, thought I would try to speed up a bit-I have been running very slowly recently due to tired legs but today they felt good. When I got home and checked the stats Mr Garmin said I had a new PR 5k 29:58 . Broken that 30 barrier at last!
Thanks. Hopefully I will be able to repeat it again one day! I still only ever get a fast time as the last part of a longer run. My first KM is always slow so the next challenge is to try to achieve the time from a standing start!
still having a nightmare trying to get back into my running pace after not being able to get out due to snow etc. Just posted a new comment talking about it on the forum, 3 runs and each one, utter hard work!
Will go out again tomm, with a positive mind to do a 5km, so Im determined to get back to where I was, but its driving me crazy at the moment!
You'll do it! Just remember if someone else posted that they were struggling to get back on form you would say-be kind to yourself, it will come- so I'm saying it to you !Happy running
I know where you are coming from. I am 5 minutes slower for 5K now than I was this time last year. I lost motivation after COVID-19 and parkrun cancellation. But just like you, we will get back there too.
Hello Damien and fellow (not) parkrunners! Grey morning here in Lincolnshire, quite windy but just about dry. Warm enough for capris and short sleeved t-shirt (10 deg). Sadly my sub 32 streak was one week only, but 32:12 thanks to a headwind on the way back, so not too bad
Nothing wrong with 32:12, Nothing at all wrong with it. Faster than my effort last Sunday which was 34:29. I ran this evening after work with Oisin for the first time in months and we did it in 32:03. Not sub 32 but better. Well done.
Despite an amber warning for rain...there was a dry window around 3pm, so I completed W7R1 (4km) of the Magic Plan, made up to 5km with warm up and cool down walking. I was back on the main road route, and used C25k W1 for intervals...jog/run instead of walk/jog. Pleased to clock up my 2nd fastest 5km and entry for (not) Park Run with 47:03. Splits: 9:59, 9:00, 8:56, 9:01 and 9:59 (average pace 9:23/km. ☺️🐌🐢🏃🏻♀️
Park Run was back for us (sorry it is not in the UK 😢 )so technically I’m not sure I’m allowed to post here. I did try a little experiment this week that I wanted to share. I’ve been jeffing 30/30 in the week to keep my heart rate super low but always do a faster straight 5k run on the weekend. This week I thought I would try jeffing a park run to see if I could improve my time. I chose the ratio 2 min run 30 sec walk and did it in 32.29 which is a ParkRun PB for me. Sub 30 feels like it may be a possibility in 2021 💪🏻❤️🏃♀️
I am sorry to be only replying to you now. Oh wow, I am delighted to hear that you are running the real parkrun. Of course you can still post here. We love to see it. I am, I must admit, a little jealous. I miss it so much. But we will all be back at some stage. The start line gets closer every week.Great running too. A PB of 32:29 whilst still running for 2 mins and walking for 30 seconds is great. Absolutely you will be sub 30 mins some day. Happy running. And enjoy your parkrun on Saturday. Please report back here again. You have genuinely brightened up my evening.
Hi runners, I just ran 4.5 km in the sun ☀️and it was bliss 😀 after so much rain in the last few days. I have been doing the challenge of running or walking every day for a month and have raising money for Cancer Research. I have raised £225 so far and I can feel the clothes getting looser on me. Win win !!
Hi damienair,I did my second ever (not) 5k park run this morning in nice warm weather. I’m still very slow at 50m 30s, but......drum roll please......I was two seconds per kilometre quicker this week and a whole 10s quicker over all. I know.....still limping snails pace but glad to report it was a PB for me! Stay safe....
5k is still 5k ,,,and a PB to boot!Did you have a custard slice again?
I must get one for my first 7 K in a fortnight. I haven't had one for over a year - custard is one your five a day as well, I think it comes from the custard fruit,,,,,
Hi Rennur, no I didn’t this week, I had a banana, an easy peeler orange, and then........ a sausage sandwich! I got carried away with the 460 calorie loss!!!
Excellent. Very well done. Just like the real parkrun, it is not a race, just a run, walk or jog of 5K. oNCE YOUR GETTING OUT THERE AND DOING IT THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. cONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR (NOT)PARKRUN PB
Sorry for the caps lock. I'm too tired to change it. I promise, I'm not shouting.
Three parkruns😊well done, anyone's guess when the official Saturday morning runs will resume, they are talking about Autumn, I doubt if they will start before that but who knows. 😊 🏃🏾
Well done nowster , sorry for not replying sooner. Great running and great 12K distance. I did my (not)parkrun on Sunday too. It was lovely. Blue Sky, and spring was definitely around.
Hi all, I'm glad I waited until today, since yesterday was so horrible with driving rain & fierce gusts of wind. What a difference a day makes: sunny, still & mild, no need for a jacket for the first time in ages! Still have lead legs, but managed 5k in 36.87, and felt OK so continued to 8k in 1hour dead on. Furthest I've gone I think since mid December, so I didn't want to push it to 10k, even though I was tempted.
Sorry for not replying sooner. Very well done. Yes I did the same, left it until Sunday to do my (not)parkrun. It was lovely, a lovely Spring day.Well done on your 1 hour 8K too. Happy running.
Great time. Very well done. A year ago I was doing parkruns in 27 minutes. Then poxy Covid put an end to that. I'm about 5 mins slower now for 5K but I'll get back there again. You are doing great, happy running.
Thanks Damien. When I started Park Runs a couple of years ago I had a couple of times at 25-26 minutes-ish. Then I slowed down after an operation, got back to about 27 minutes last year, and now I just feel I can't go any faster. It takes all my efforts to get below 29 now, so I was pleased with this one. Perhaps it'll be better for us when we're running with others?
Absolutely. I am sick of running on my own and having nothing to train for. I can't wait for the real thing. My parkrun PB was in August 2019, I did my first and only sub 26 minute 5K in 25:36. I feel like I'm a million miles away from that now. But I also know that when parkrun returns I'll be back training hard, and I will be back to 27 minutes again. I'll have to shave 5 minutes off my current effort. 27 minutes is fantastic, well done again.
