Good morning everyone. It's that time of the week again. Saturday is parkrun day normally, but that awful COVID-19 has wrecked that part of our lives. But a little group here on this forum are standing strong and we are running our own little private and personal 5K (not)parkrun. We might have a few new runners joining us this morning so remember to say a lovely big friendly hello at the first timers briefing.
For anyone who is new, we just run our own 5K, and report back here afterwards letting us all know how you got on. It is just for fun, you can walk, jog or run. Last week I was exhausted and did all 3 in the same run You can register on the parkrun website if you want and log your (not)parkrun.
I'll be a bit later starting. I have to work this morning. There should have been a large Surgical Conference in Barcelona this week. But of course that was cancelled like everything else and it is online. So I have to go onto my PC and stand at a Virtual Booth in case any virtual customers arrive looking for information. The world has gone mad. I'll do my run after lunch time.
So good luck to all my friends. Happy Running. Looking forward to all the run reports.

Good morning damienair and (not) parkrunners new and old.
It is very wet here in Stockport. But we will be going out anyway. Will report back later, after 2nd breakfast and 2nd shower (which will be warmer than the first one I can see out there waiting for us)
Hereβs a strange phenomenon. I didnβt want to run this morning. π± Iβd taken a week off after a back tweak last weekend and weβve been walking in Cornwall, and I assumed Iβd be itching to get out. But no I wasnβt feeling it. π€·ββοΈ
Still in true βno gremlins allowed hereβ fashion I hopped in the car and found myself on the common. Walked up the hill realising there was a cold headwind and decided there and then to make it enjoyable for myself by doing what comes naturally and slowing right down. Oh yes, that worked. Did my little course in 37:15!
No records today but the gremlins have a flea in their ear. π
Excellent. Very well done Cheeky for smacking those Gremlins right in the face and getting up into the Common so early. Great running and very well done.
Good morning. πIβm back!! Got up this morning and didnβt give myself time to think, quick blast of the inhaler and out the door. I didnβt run any of my normal routes just meandered around the streets and managed to run 5k in 42 mins. Not a PB but it was a nice comfortable run and I feel good now. First outing since Oct 1st and Iβm pretty pleased with it.
My 55 minute run on Juju's plan so, again , a gentle plod .The fastest 5k section was the last 5k of the run 35:12 so no PB but at least it's done!_and now I feel great.
This running is so special_wish I knew the secret earlier!
Well done on your long run and on your (not)parkrun. Great running. I know what you mean. I just started running 3.5 years ago. I had tried to do it so many times before but failed. parkrun was what kept me going. Each week I would try to go back and get a little faster or run more and more without any walking breaks. It was such a thrill seeing my times improve. I really went for it last January, I shaved 7 minutes off my PB time and shaved 2.5 stone in weight off my body. Running has been amazing and I really wish I had started years ago. But it is never too late.
"Enjoy" your virtual conference this morning Damien, I am just back from my 17th not parkrun, the weather dry and a little sunny, good run for me today, I saw 19 other runners which is more than usual, one of them high fived me as we were running in the opposite direction, my time today was 16 seconds faster than last week at 33.14.
I just realised that I have ran 17 official Parkruns and now 17 (not) parkruns as well as 30 virtual parkruns, the virtual ones started on 21st March a week after the last official one, the first (not) parkrun began on the 20th June.
What actually happened Sue was at around halfway on my run this morning there were 5 fairly tall men running together in the opposite direction, I shouted good morning and one of the taller men high fived me, I put my left arm up a little, he also put his left arm up, but higher, because he was so tall our hands never met so no bent finger π I hope your finger was not broken.
Good morning VRBs! After Southsea (not) parkrun on Wednesday, I decided to go for double helpings this week and do a normal Saturday (not) parkrun back on home turf. It was raining hard when I got up, so thought Iβd wait to see if it improved. By 9.45 it was just drizzling slightly, so off I went before I changed my mind. Gentle run in 32.34 (11 seconds slower than Wednesday). Now, of course, the sun has come out. Oh well π€¦πΌββοΈ Happy running and have a great weekend
Well done Sandie. Your run is done. You can relax for the day now. I'm just getting ready to go. I'm looking forward to a warm shower afterwards and a shave. My beard is in the itchy phase again.
Good morning all . Its a beautiful sunny day here in Scotland. Seems a bit chilly to start but I heat up very quick so still sticking to the tshirt. My not parkrun time today is 29.53.
well that was a surprise - the rain stopped as we left the house, I took my jacket off after about 2km then had a very enjoyable run along our normal Saturday route. Not too many puddles and fewer people about than normal. Most of those must have been a bit grumpy because they didn't return my "good morning". I felt I should have thanked the first one that did. Then on my return lap I heard running steps behind me and was surprised by a cheery greeting as I was passed by someone I recognise from parkrun. I had assumed it was Geoff "catching me up".
No I wasn't ahead of him, I turned back at my 4km point but he ran further to try to catch me up on the LeJog. He would have done so but yet again he didn't have his Garmin on for the walk back from the cafe!
So I ran 6km and the rain started again as we walked back for our usual 2nd breakfast - we decided against sitting outside today!
It turned out to be my 5km pb for the week, usually that is on a Monday when I have been running "with" a friend who did a lockdown C25K. I have been logging 3 x 5k runs a week on the (not) parkrun page so that brings me to 51 - Geoff said I should add "(not) " to my red 50 shirt!
I got a e mail from the T Shirt people suggesting that I order a (not) parkrun T shirt with the name of the place that I run, so in my case it would be "Broadwood Loch not parkrun" I declined the offer.
Geoff bought me one for my birthday. I think I have posted a photo.
It says "runaround sue - chadkirk & goyt valley" which is where we have been running every Saturday since lockdown started, except when we accompanied pianism on his half marathon and when we were camping near to Delamere Forest parkrun (we ran that on the Saturday)
By the way, the reason there is so much on my t-shirt is because Geoff was determined to get his money's worth. Maximum 40 letters/spaces. He got 38
Thank you both, Iβm looking forward to smashing a few demons tomorrow and indulging in some highly calorific food afterwards π Iβll keep the pom-poms dry and ready for you cheeky πππͺ
I wasn't sure if I was going to run today as my legs felt really tired from yesterday. I decided to walk into Nottingham yesterday to an appointment. Afterwards I had 90 minutes to wait for the next bus to my village so I decided to walk back. It was 90 minutes each way and I still got home before the bus. Total walk 13 miles.
I felt good when I got up this morning so thought I would try out my new Brooks Cascadias. I managed a time of 32:29 minutes. I was happy with this time as I had to go back to check the toilets in the country park as there was an alarm going off. There was no one else around and as a nurse I felt I had to check in case someone was ill/injured. Thankfully they were empty so I was able to carry on.
Well done for getting out and breaking in your new runners. Hope they were comfy. I'm patiently waiting for the new Brooks GTS21's. My GTS 19's are well worn now.
Can O say I did yesterdayβs ? Iβve been at work today, so yesterday i was in a mood and we went for a run, some strange things happened, running gently round out track my pace was 14.30 minutes per mile, there were quite a few people so my mood and i ran across the grass and went off track, next time i looked my pace was 13.25 minutes per mile and at one point it was 12.40. I joined Willow back on the track and without realising iβd changed pace i was back to 14.30 again, off onto the grass again through the wood and sped up again, back on the track i slowed down, and so it went on.....
Finished in 43 min 42 seconds my second fastest 5k and every kilometre under 9 mins, but that was odd
I had a good 5K. But i'm not going to log it as a (not)parkrun. That's because I ended up doing interval training. I ran 2.4K at a 6:06 min/km pace and then stopped. I ran the next 800 meters at a faster pace, stopped for a couple of minutes to get my breath back, ran again faster for 800 meters, rested and then finished with 2 x 500 meter intervals. I did a good run and finished 5K in 28:08, average pace was 5:37 min/km. My splits were:
Lap 1 5:52
Lap 2 6:18
Lap 3 5:45
Lap 4 5:10
Lap 5 5:00
I'm happy with that. It was a nice little interval session. I'm planning on a nice slow gentle longer run tomorrow. I'm planning to be sub 30 minutes again for 5K by the end of the month.
Hi all, ran a good 5k for me dodging the showers in North Wales. I ran my usual route listening to my heavy rock music play list. It wasnβt my fastest but I was pleased with my time of 39.07 and that included the time to open 4 gates and cross 2 roads.
Well done. Sorry that I am only replying now. Did the shopping yesterday afternoon, spent time with the kids and cooked dinner etc, so left the phone to one side for a while. Well done on your run. There is a Strokes song on my play list and the beat is amazing, I pick up pace as soon as it comes on.
No worries, kids are more important than this app. I love the best of some of my heavy metal songs. I find my pace increases too. Did a 5k Jeff this morning as the weather is so perfect. Did 5k in 41.08. It never ceases to amaze me that the time when Jeffing is not much slower.
Beautiful morning on the South Coast today, but quite chilly at 9.00 - wore my running gloves for the first time. Just about to start when another Portsmouth Lakeside parkrunner came along, just finishing her run. We chatted for a while , bemoaning the lack of you know what, then off I went.
I've been experimenting recently with a slower pace, particularly on longer runs, but decided that today would be a 'normal' pace run, so every km was just under 6.00 and the final score on the door was 29.36. Perfect!
Excellent Jonathan. I'd have been very happy with that. Nice pace and nice running. I have not reached gloves, neck buff and hat stage yet. But I am running with a light running jacket.
Thanks Damien. Gloves only so far - base layer will be my next addition. Sounds like you enjoyed your intervals session - that's my plan for tomorrow morning .
I think that we have both had purple patches in previous years with the weather changing from winter into spring and again with summer fading into autumn. Optimum operating temperature!
No run for me today. I ran yesterday. If I hadn't caught a cold today would have been a run day. On the other hand it was chucking down this morning in NE Manchester.
Tomorrow morning for a c25k week 4 type run, with the last five minutes split into 3m jog and 2m sprint.
I'll extend the cool down walk to make it 5km, as I did last Sunday (but without the brambles and nettles).
I haven't run since Wednesday morning and was itching to get out. Everyday life is getting in the way recently.
My 5k this afternoon was part of longer run of 8k on the Magic Plan, so was really slow.
Nothing remarkable to report except that Accuweather lied. It said light rain. The heavens opened and the phrase drowned rat π would have been most appropriate.
I tried out my new calf compression sleeves. I must admit to being a bit skeptical about these things but I have to say I was quite surprised. I've been feeling it a bit in the legs on these longer runs lately, especially as I've been running on the road a bit more recently. My legs didn't feel at all tired or heavy on this run. I guess I will see if it affects my recovery at all but I will use them again on my longer runs.
The sleeves are not as hot as compression sox or tights and definitely easier to get on and off. Has anyone else used them?
Well done on your 8K and glad that all worked out well with your new calf compression sleeves. I only wear ankle socks so don't have any experience with calf compression sleeves. Although I do know a few people who do long distance Half Marathons and Marathons who swear by them.
Hi Damien. A late 5k this weekend; needed an extra day to get over Thursdayβs 10 miles. All a bit stiff and heavy, so a bit slower at 32:18. First cold weather jacket day of the year, thanks to a chilly NNW wind and overcast sky. Mrs BC suggested wearing bottoms too, but I am not ready to acknowledge the oncoming winter quite yet! Your resolution to speed up is going really well!!ππππ
Well done on your 10 mile run and on your (not)parkrun. I slowed down about 3 months ago and it is really an effort now to cut that time back. But I'll get there. My aim is to be around 27 to 28 minutes for 5K again. That would be good. But I also want to built up to a sub 1 hour 10K again.
We are all doing brilliantly. Everyone here on this forum and the other running forums. Some of us have Graduated, some have gone on to Half Marathons and Marathons, some have slowed down and some have gotten a little speedier. But we are all still out there. Throughout this pandemic we have kept pounding the pavements, running around the park and around the common. Well done to everyone here for continuing to keep the (not)parkrun alive.
So Sunday's 5k was in the woods near my son's tennis club again - last time I'd had to do a few laps of the carpark to make the 5k so I planned a slightly longer route this time. This added a nice stretch along the beach as well as the lovely woodland trails, though it also added a steepish hill. For all sorts of reasons I wasn't expecting a particularly fast time today (legs tired from Friday's 10k, muddy conditions, trailfinding, hills), but to my surprise I clocked my fastest 1k (probably on the downhill stretch!) and my third fastest 5k (30:27). The two faster 5ks were about a minute faster but had been much more intense efforts than today - I think I'm getting fitter!
Great running. It is fantastic when you feel fitter and a faster 5K is done without extreme effort. Well done. The longer runs are great for building stamina. It's paying off for you now.
