So long story short... Took up C25K in lockdown 1 with Sarah Millican as my cheerleader π and it was hard but I kept pushing.... Finally got to 5k, spent some time on getting my time down then worked on my distance.... Got to 8k and then tailed off as the weather got colder/wetter and darker (stay in Scotland!!) π
Was ill 2 weeks ago, thankfully not Covid-19 but it hit me like a tonne of bricks and I never ran for 2 weeks solid π³π₯Ί as my cough was so bad and chest was so tight I just couldn't do it (running up the stairs floored me!)
Anyhoo.... Ran 6k last Saturday (was supposed to be 5k but forgot to hit the button on my garmin until about 1.5km in! π³π) so ran 5k just so it would log π
So I was due another run as I try to run every other day AND I get an invite from a local running π club near me (I've liked their page on FB but was never brave enough to go along) to come along and join them... I ummed and agghhed and made up excuses in my head why I couldn't go etc etc.... The gremlins were having a fair go at my head BUT I went and LOVED it!!!
They were so welcoming and friendly, found out where I was at with my running and put me with a group they thought would suit me AND that group encouraged me to keep going (oh and I never realised that I could actually hold a conversation whilst running as I've always ran alone!) and I did it..... 10K!!!! I'm so happy, motivated, energised and proud of myself π€
From being 4 stone overweight in October last year to running 10k last night..... I can't believe it!!!!
Sorry for boasting but truly never thought I'd actually ever get this far, consider myself a runner or ever complete a 10k....if I can do it.... Anyone can!!!!
**well done if you read it all.... Not exactly a long story short!!!! π

Excellent. Huge congratulations to you. You are right to be proud of yourself. 10K is a long distance and a wonderful milestone to reach. Hopefully next year we will be able to take part in events again and you will get to experience the thrill and joy of running at a parkrun course or two, and 5K and 10K road races. I miss that so much. Fingers and toes crossed for 2021. Well done again.
Thanks so much π the group I ran with last night were telling me about all the events that they've been part of and I can't wait to get involved.
Just glad to be part of a group to run at night as I was very nervous about running on my own at night, so being part of this club stops that excuse ππ
Fantastic! What a journey we've all been on - from c25k, to that first 5k and now 10k. It's an amazing feeling and you have every right to boast about your achievements πWell done you! ππ
Started C25k in September and am more than inspired by your post. I'm still working on getting to the 5k, but your post will keep me going. Amazing achievement for you - be well proud of yourself, incredible. π€ΎββοΈπ€Έπππ
Thank you so much for responding, that means the absolute world to me to know I've inspired just one person. Keep going, you're stronger than you know πͺ
The gremlins try and stop you but just ignore them, they're just jealous of how fantastic you are and how far you've came π
So inspiring to hear about your achievements. I started running to get fitter and lose weight. It does work! Well done!
Boast away....you have achieved so much and you should rightfully puff out your chest and say look what I did!! Awesome!! Not braved a running club as feared Iβd be found out as not a proper runner....so you are super brave in my eyes and a new distance ticked off. So happy for you ππ
So so many congratulations! What a fantastic achievement, you have every right to be proud and you can revisit that memory whenever you need an extra glow in your day. The wonderful thing is that this forum fully encourages boasting Bask in your success and enjoy your next challenge!
That's amazing. I'm still doing the Magic Plan after starting C25k in June this year, and couldn't imagine running with others...... but maybe I could! You've inspired me!
Huge congratulations on your amazing achievement. You deserve to be so proud and happy. ππβοΈβοΈππββοΈ10k is a great distance and hopefully Iβm heading there too. I also woke up to snow this morning (East Ayrshire). Need to rethink todayβs run. Your experience at the running club is interesting and also very brave. Might head there soon. Happy running.
