8k New Route, But Took A Tumble

Out at 5:45am this morning, weathers turned cooler, nice though.

Music on, Nike Run Club 6k run selected, reached the roundabout, which I cross on my on normal route, but decided to try a different one, noticed street lighting wasn’t great but off I went.....gradual downhill slope nice, came to the junction of a cul-de-sac, lost my footing on the kerb and took a tumble. Hit my shoulder and grazed my hand, bleeding but everything else in tact, get up and carry on.

The downhill became an uphill, never tackled a hill as steep, looked on the ground and there was a discarded L Plate.....felt that was a sign saying your a Learner when it comes to hills like this, (hill gremlin 👺?) but took it steady, breathing in a good rhythm and made it 😄 quite pleased with that, carried on and completed my 6k.....added another 2k run on at the end, so all in all an eventful but satisfying 8k in the bag 👍🏃‍♂️

The 8k is practice for the Vitality London 10,000 I’ve signed up for. It’s a virtual race this year, but the challenge itself coupled with a medal and tee shirt on offer was too tempting to miss. Thanks to Buddy34 for the heads up on that one.

Happy Running Everyone 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

It’s these details that are actually so insightful and help me to keep on being motivated to run. So thank you for sharing, both the big successes and the small but significant trials and tribulations of a runner!

You’re on your way to an exciting 10k! (And medal bling sounds great as well)

Thank you CBDB, apart from the fall it was a good run, I was pleased with my stamina on the hilly parts. I’d definitely run that route again but a little later in the morning. The 10k will be a good one and nice to have my first bit of bling since taking up running 🏅🏃‍♂️

What a run even after a fall Couchphoenix. I hope you're not to badly hurt. 🤗🤗

I’m fine thanks Buddy34, bit of gravel rash but ok apart from that. I enjoyed that route so will use it again as there’s good combination of hills and flat. 👍🏃‍♂️

Mister!!!! 🙈👎😢

I hope you’re ok... hope there are no after effects of your fall!

Absolute superstar to get up and carry on 👏👏👏👏

Great control of the hill Gremlin too 👺👊

I did smile when I saw that L plate lying there just before the hill.....what are the chances ! 😂

Hope you don't feel achey after that tumble. Well done for carrying on, I think I would have given up and gone home!

I was tempted as my hand was bleeding, but thought, come on get on with it I was all geared up for the run. I’m glad I did too as i liked the route and I’ll definitely run it again.

Hope you're feeling ok after your fall? Funny how the adrenaline kicks in and we just want to carry on running! 😂 Good distance too and you will be more than ready for the Vitality 10000. I ran this last year and think I may do this virtual challenge too - it's well priced for a medal and a tshirt. 😀

Yeah I’m fine thanks Sandraj39, as for Vitality 10000, go for it, as you say it’s reasonably priced for a tee shirt and medal, plus it’s a nice 10k challenge for you too. 👍

I am sure a fair few will sign up for this - it will be good to support each other! 🙂👏

Bad luck on that fall. When it’s still dark it might be easier to stick to roads, they’re less uneven than pavements and less patchy so it’s easier to see uneven bits. Also kerbs are a beast, they can be deceptive.

Well done conquering the hill. It’s a great thing to be able to do 😀

Thanks Magellan, I’ve been following the same route for ages, which although well lit is getting a bit samey, it’s just one part of this new one which is poorly lit, so I’ll look into getting a chest torch. I’ve been avoiding steep hills, call it a fragile runner ego thing, but glad I tackled and conquered those, good confidence builder💪🏻😁

Ouch, sounds painful, but well done for finishing anyway. I have been very glad of my new running chest light - even where there are streetlights it is nice to be able to see my footing clearly.

Thank you Blackberrypie I’ve been thinking about getting a chest torch, maybe that was the wake up call I needed, the mornings are getting darker now....I’ll have a look online for one

I ended up getting one where you can angle the light downward which is really helpful in illuminating the ground ahead.

Can you tell me what make your chest torch is, it sounds a good one.

💪🏻That’s the sort of fighting talk we like GTFC.....it was eventful but still enjoyed it especially getting over those hills without stopping 👊🏃‍♂️

That was an eventful run! Good to hear that there are no lasting effects. Sounds like you'll be racing down that medal no bother!

Thanks Fionamags, that’s the plan, running well lately so first bit of bling will be nice when I complete it 🏅😁

Wowsers, well done on your fantastic run, even after your fall. I always wince when I read of falls, especially on the road. My only one was down a hole disguised by mown grass. I carried on too, of course!

I was entered in the actual Vitality 10000 and have since deferred my entry to next year, as have a few of us on here. I’m doing the virtual version too as, to put it bluntly, I want another medal! It’s all about the bling! 🏅

Have fun! 😀

Sorry for the late reply.....thank you cheekychipmunks 😊 hands healing up nicely, I’m out again in the morning, I’ll be more careful this time. Good luck with the Vitality 10000, I’m sure you’ll do great and we’ll see quite a few celebratory posts on here from runners who’ve also completed it 👍

Sorry to hear you had a tumble. But it sounds like you’re a trooper not only carrying on but adding an extra 2ks on plus a hill !!

Sorry for the late reply.....Thank you Health2020 😊an eventful but enjoyable run and I was pleased I could conquer those hills albeit at quite a slow steady pace. I’m sure they’ll get easier the more I run that route 👍🏃🏼
