Between my sore calf muscle and Willows sore knee we have decided to pause the plan for a week and see where we go from there, we will still go out, maybe just to walk to start with but walking means carrying my phone and taking pictures
Happy running all

Oh what a shame but very sensible I’m sure. Lots of Arnica gel rubbed into the offending body parts.... I’m sure you’ll rejoin us soon. Enjoy your walking and photo opportunities.
I saw 3 separate squirrels whilst running the other day but couldn’t get my phone out in time for any of them. ☹️
It’s the one thing I miss, taking loads of photos, running 4 times a week around work has been a bit of a challenge but getting a sore calf made me slow down, I haven’t arnica gel i better get some thanks
Sensible to listen to your bodies. You've been busy at work too. As long as you're getting fresh air and exercise it seems fine to have a rest. We mustn't batter ourselves!
Oh no W&S!! That's frustrating but I note you said "paused". I'm sure with a little rest and batteries recharged you'll be back firing on all cylinders soon. In the meantime make the most of those walks and keep us informed 🤞🤞
We walked the downs yesterday and the beach today we will walk for a few days and then run when we are more comfortable probably by the weekend, I keep thinking i need to lose my quit smoking weight so am looking at nutrition as well as walking and resting so we can come back running stronger
Sounds like you've got it sorted. Approaching this holistically is a great way to do it. I must admit I got so wrapped up in the 10k I forgot about everything else. I'm now strengthening, stretching and hydrating and hopefully a run by the end of the week. A pause button will prove it's worth👍
I don't know how you've done it so far?? 3 times a week is proving difficult for me due to work commitments. Re-evaluate, see how you feel and then make the desicion 🤔
Thank you I will, it should work round work in theory but it’s been stretching us to the limit, we find all the shorter runs frustrating because I was running at least 2 5k’s a week but it has meant that Willow keeps going and doesn’t go sit in the car after 3k
He twisted his knee not running related and we ran round the lake yesterday and kept going up and down grass banks to avoid people which probably strained my calf, onwards and forwards though and we still love running
I’ve quit the plan and set up another for 3 times a week that gives us an extra day recovery each week, we are no longer young lol but the big thing is fitting it round work
I might look to see if there is a plan we can do 3 days a week, I like the Garmin one because it tells me what day and what to do and comes up on the watch, but we have been pushing ourselves, todays walk was fine until we scrambled up a bank by a bridge and my calf hurt again then limped all the way home, I love taking photos of where we have been
I think Fab450 is on a Garmin one that is 3 days, isn't she? I might be wrong though as I was looking at it and was put off by the idea of 4 runs a week. I'll tag her and maybe she can help us out Fabulous450 ???
Yes she is on a different one to us, I will pause for a while and once healed see if we can run a bit further 3 times a week which will give us more rest time between runs,
Oh Yes, 3 days a week works brilliantly for me. The 2 runs in the week are drills, so it’s really good fun too. My long run day is a Saturday and the shorter weekday runs builds you up nicely for it. I hope you’re feeling a lot better soon. I really think that you’ll enjoy it!! 🤗❤️
I just looked on Garmin Connect and I set one up for 3 days a week with coach Jeff. The female coach has a longer duration of plan and 4 days/wk. A bit odd that...
That sounds like a very tough plan W&S. have you thought about doing the magic plan instead. It’s 3 days a week or 2 rest days between each run if you want. You don’t have to run fast. In fact you should run slow on your long run.
It is safe and it’s not arduous. 1 short run, 1 5k and 1 run that gets longer each week.
I like the magic plan but i really like my garmin telling me what to do, I’ve quit the plan and set up a new one for 3 times a week which will be easier to fit round work, we enjoyed following the plan but kept saying we might walk one a week so it was obviously one too many times a week for us, I’ve gained 12 lbs since quitting smoking and seemed to have no time to consider how to lose it again, now i might just get a handle on how much i’m eating
The other thing is we walked yesterday and today and loved just walking for a change so we plan to fit in walks on rest days which will help too
4 times a week hasn’t left much time for anything else after work, I can’t believe i ran 6 evenings a week in my 20’s but then i was home all day and it was my way of having some me time
You can program the Garmin with your own custom activities, which can include the Magic Plan runs, and add them to the Garmin calendar. I did that for my later C25K runs.
The problem with a lot of modern software is you don't get instructions. Seeing what works together is often a guessing game or stumbling across things by accident.
I’ve set up a custom plan on Garmin, well just week 1 so far but I now know how to do it, thank you for telling me, and I can tailor the plan week by week 😀
Thanks Buddy, I’ve missed taking photos, we walked after work today and it made us realise that a short walk while dinner cooked isn’t as tiring as a full on run, we seem to have been getting slower and slower and aching more
This forum is the best. It's the greatest!! How lucky are we to be on it???
Anyway, you do you...and Willow. Do what works for you. 3 times a week is plenty. Whether it's Garmin or The Magic Plan or whatever, just keep going out and being you! Make up you own plan! Call it the 'Willola'
As you know I’m also doing the garmin plan, a few weeks behind you and am extremely close to jumping ship. It’s the 4 workouts a week that’s not working for me, and the random 3k runs it puts in some weeks.
Also liking the fact it tells you on the watch what to do and gives countdowns etc.
I only started on C25k in May and everyone says don’t run on consecutive days, last week this plan threw me two 5k (4.88) runs on consecutive days - I’m just waiting for something to go pop!
Giving it this week and if next isn’t looking brilliant I’ll jump onto Ju-jus plan.
Found I can program my garmin (forerunner 245) with the workouts, not sure how to schedule them yet, but it’s definitely looking more appealing than the G-plan at the minute.
Anyway, sorry for all the waffling, hope you’re fixed up soon and back to running.
Who knew that pulling a calf muscle and having a whinge would become such a learning opportunity? Thank you everyone, it’s not all about steps and muscles it’s about tech as well
This thread has been fascinating, it's just a shame it's because of your knee! Hope it's better soon. Of course one benefit of lots of walks, is that you can check out possible running routes before committing to them. Relax and enjoy 😊
Everyone is different for sure although 3 times a week would be plenty to take you to 10k. Like the Magic plan a short run, medium one and ever longer (slower) run is a terrific way of doing it. Then you can experiment more after with shorter ones after you have completed it. I'm not an expert at all and it depends on time etc but 4 times a week to get to 10k seems a lot.
It was pushing it, the longest run on Thursday and Thursday is often my longest day at work, then Fridays always short and sharp, hill repeats or cadence run, not much fun on tired legs
I think a plan definitely fits around you rather than the you fitting around a plan. Everyone works different patterns and shifts so would have different times and days to run. I've just looked at the magic plan to remind myself . Don't feel pressured by anything. You will get there and it's more the working out how rather than the if 😁
So sorry to hear your news. It is probably a very sensible decision and you will come back stronger and very importantly rested. Also best to tailor your running to suit you both as best as you can without it becoming a chore. Good luck.
