Starting the 10k magic plan!

I’m hoping to start 10k training this weekend (although back pain might delay things😕)

Was convinced I saw a post a while ago here which detailed NRC guided runs that could go alongside Ju Ju’s magic plan but I can’t find it. Any ideas? Thanks.

I’ve never seen that before but it sounds great if it exists! I wonder if you’re thinking of the NRC 10K plan which is a bit different?

Excellent! Glad it was what you were looking for! There are lots of NRC fans who can recommend their favourites. I really like “a whole run” and “running towards your goals”. One useful thing to remember is the easy/recovery/long runs which is what you’ll be using most (or possibly exclusively) don’t have a warm up/cool down walk included. The speed runs are great fun. I wasn’t really ready for that sort of running until a bit later on after I’d finished the magic plan but we’re all different.

Are you planning on doing the time based or distance based version of magic plan?

Good luck!

I think I’m going to go distance based but might change my mind, not sure. I’m currently running 5k in 39 mins so 10k when I get there is going to be well over an hour! So maybe time based!! Undecided 😂

I’d personally go for time based-that will also make it easier with choosing NRC guided runs if that’s your plan. You won’t have to guess how long it will take you to run each distance! I’ve found the distance measuring is dodgy on the NRC app (consistently undercounting) so you might also end up running further than you need to if you’re relying on that to tell you when to stop.

Either one will still get you there but I know many of our runners who cover 5k in a similar time to you preferred the time based option. Really good luck to you! I loved the magic plan and I ran a 10k race not long after finishing so I’d definitely recommend it!

thank you for that. It makes much more sense now you’ve explained it like that. Time based it is, thanks! 😊

Excellent! There’s nothing to say you can’t switch to the other version if you like! Really good luck to you 💪🏃‍♀️❤️

Time based is a great way to increase the time running, I did that and was so proud when I ran my first 60 minutes, NRC has guided time runs as others say to use alongside if it's guided runs you like, have fun

Hi @Kjb04, the choice of 10K plan is absolutely up to you, and the NRC plan linked to by MissUnderstanding and Juju's Magic Plan - healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... - will both get you to 10k.

As you'll see, though, the structure and approach are not the same at all. So if you want to use NRC guided runs with the timed Magic Plan you'll need to pick ones (not necessarily from the 10k plan) that match the run times in that plan.

The Magic Plan worked brilliantly for me personally (I don't do audio-guided runs as I don't enjoy them) but lots of people get on very well with NRC. However you choose to do it, have fun getting to 10k!

Thank you Cmoi. I’m not a big fan of the guided NRC either but occasionally it shakes things up a bit. I’m definitely up for the magic plan. Was looking forward to starting today but have a bad back so just yoga for me until next week, c’est la vie! 😊

Thank you Oldfloss. Yes I have it and the mind is willing but the body not so much at the moment. A touch of back pain is delaying proceedings but it will pass and then I’m on it! 😀
