I thought I would do 2x 10K’s this week as no Park Run possible Saturday and away next week, which apart from hopefully doing the Southampton Park Run Saturday week, I may not get the opportunity to go out during the week.
So Monday morning just after 7am set off for a steady run. My pace for the 1st mile was a little fast but just kept going thinking I would slow naturally anyway. I did slow , but after 4 miles realised that if I could keep the pace up I was on for a PB so started to focus and sure enough finished on 62.32 33 secs faster than my previous best.
I have never run 2x 10K in such a short space of time but set out again this morning, again with the intention of a steady run, no thought of anything else. Running easily, the first mile was at a reasonable pace and I again just kept going. Unusually my average pace altered very little for the first 4 miles and it was clear that I was again well inside my best time. However a quick calculation told me I might even be on for a sub 60!! I had been running easily up to this point but the prospect of a sub 60 again focussed my mind and I started to quicken my pace in pursuit of it. Still had enough in my tank for a sprint finish but finished in a time of 61.01 so missing the sub 60 but still beating my previous time by 91 secs. The thing that has struck me is how much stronger I feel in my runs since I’ve been doing regular 10K’s and like the two PB’s this week they have been achieved without me really trying.
So think I am now ready to start my next stage and start to work towards 10 miles, so holiday 1st then down to work.
