New trainers and Duracell legs today but wish I could work our distances πŸ˜€

Morning everyone.. just thought I’d say hello again. After investing in stability trainers which have made a huge difference to my ankle and reduced those pesky niggles I set off not thinking of how far I would run this morning.... and I just kept going.... it was great.. don’t know why but pace was slow and steady and had to stop myself and turn round in case I ran out of steam too far away from home to get back... 15.3km... just wish I’d kept going a bit further as I finished just shy of 10 miles... but my longest distance ever and that’s good enough for me.

Happy running everyone and stay well and safe.

Phenomenal run, everything must have been just so for you today. Now you know 10miles is well within range - that's my next target. Happy running πŸ€—

Thanks GH.. I will have another go one weekend soon. Out of curiosity. Do you take a drink on longer runs? As mine are all spontaneous runs I never have anything with me not even my phone. Mr Wimborne has had words with me about taking more care and planning longer runs.

I needed water and nutrition for 10 miles (dates and dried apricots are good)

Longest run so far 1hr 42 for 14.37km no water but a jelly baby was consumed at 9k🀣 my next long run is 10miles, 16k which hubby thinks I should take water for, it will be just short of 2hrs. I usually drink loads of tea and water before I run. Everyone is different and you need to learn what your own body requires- hot weather requires more liquid.

Don’t forget it’s 16.1k grannyhugs- you don’t want to just miss out. 🀣🀣

I’d like to buy Duracell legs somewhere! Mine are the old fashioned Eveready ones which fade half way round whatever the distance. πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈWell done!!

I will let you know if I see any on sale πŸ˜‚... Mine too are usually fading and last week had to stop for a rest on a 5k πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Well done you πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ Sounds like a great run!

Wimborneβ€’ in reply toSandie1961

It was Sandie just lovely. I did come home to Mr Wimborne giving me words of advice on planning longer runs and taking my phone.. but it’s far more exciting when I just run off not quite knowing how far or how long I will be gone for ...

Fabulous running Wimborne, but Please take your phone with you! I'd have been stuffed when I fell and broke my ankle, if I didn't have mine with me. There was nobody to be seen while I waited for Mr Grumpy to come and scrape me off the ground.

Wimborneβ€’ in reply togrumpyoldgirl

I know... I had it with me last year when I fell and broke mine too but always hated taking it with me and once I got my garmin with music I could leave it behind. I have promised Mr W I will start to take it again ... but it is lovely escaping without it

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10β€’ in reply toWimborne

Why not take your phone but put it on silent so no one can ring you.?

Lizzibeth78 profile image
Lizzibeth78β€’ in reply toDexy5

You can set your Garmin so it won’t show up on your watch while you are running too.

Wimborneβ€’ in reply toDexy5

It still manages to come though my headphones somehow??? I guess though I could turn it off!

grumpyoldgirl profile image
grumpyoldgirlβ€’ in reply toWimborne

i pop mine into a flipbelt and slide it round the back, I dont even notice it.

Wimborne profile image
Wimborneβ€’ in reply togrumpyoldgirl

I have a belt thingy but just like running without it but I get the safety bit... I possibly need to be a bit more careful.

Excellent news Wimborne- glad you’re out and enjoying your running again!

I think you deserve a treat Wimborne. A simple garmin forerunner 35 will keep your distance. Or use Strava on your mobile and it can be set up to tell you your distance and pace every km. Edit: I have now seen your response that says you’ve already got a swish garmin. Please ignore.

you are so close to 16.1 km (10 miles)

Mr W bought it for me so I could look forward to getting back to running... and it’s fab but I think I’ll start taking my phone. I didn’t plan today’s run so guess I need to plan a bit more too. And yes nearly there.. who knows when my legs will do it again though.... and now I know it’s 16.1km so one day for sure I’ll just keep going.

Check you out Wimborne! Fantastic Duracell legs indeed. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

I take along jelly babies and Tailwind and that does me fine. I don’t usually start the JB’s until after 10k, but on my recent long runs - 14.5k and 10 miles, I started sipping the Tailwind at around 7k as a preventative measure. Worked a treat and I had so much more energy than last year.

You’ll be at 10 miles - and then HM too - before you know it! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Am liking the jelly babies but for all wrong reasons. I know I will eat the packet and just save a few.. then eat those and buy another packet... will check out tailwind too... for reasons beyond me I am tempted to start to think about HM too!!! Where did that come from???

Because you are bonkers - like all us runners who say they have no desire to run further than 10k! That would be fantastic - go for it. If I can, you definitely can! πŸ₯° 😘 πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘

What a fabulous run for you, an amazing feeling when the legs are just happy to keep going. I can't help with hydration or fuel question.. furthest I've run is 10k and didn't feel the need for either on that distance. Looking forward to seeing your 10mile post 😊

Fantastic run, well done πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘

Sounds like if you've not already joined you need to get yourself over to Marathon, Half Marathon and Race Support...that way when you decide to conquer that 16.1k run they'll give you a shiny new 10mile badge by your name.

Problem is, after that it's not so far to HM πŸ˜‰πŸ˜…

Wimborne profile image
Wimborneβ€’ in reply toRun46

not sure why that made giggle out loud .... me and a group called marathon and half marathon. I think I have imposter syndrome... I used to eat marathons as a child though. Seriously still can’t think of myself as runner really... I will take a peep though just to see... am rather flattered you even thought of it.

Run46 profile image
Run46Graduate10β€’ in reply toWimborne

Lol, I felt the same when I joined and was interested in trying for 10 miles. Then I timidly joined their Spring HM training group and now I'm in the Autumn HM group...they have a habit of convincing you it's just a bit further than 10 miles and get you hooked πŸ˜†

And as you've already almost run 10 miles then you defo belong πŸ˜‰

Ps: I also loved Marathon bars and see no reason to stop eating them just coz they've changed the name 🍫

Wimborne profile image
Wimborneβ€’ in reply toRun46

Stupid name for a marathon too! And great news you are in the HM group... and it’s sooooooo much further than 10 miles... hope your training is going well for it... happy running this week. Looking at the forecast I won’t be out for long as it’s ridiculously warm where I am at the weekend πŸ₯΅
