I went out earlier today. The sun was below the tree line so it was cold! My plan was to walk 5 minutes to warm up then jog a steady lap of the field then do another 4 x 4 intervals session, with 4 minutes 'fast' followed by 3 minutes walking.
My legs felt a bit tired and heavy in my warm up jog – maybe it's time for a reset week. I got into the 'fast' runs and found my breathing getting heavy before my HR hit 165 bpm (my target maximum). I was pleased when the 4 minutes was up. The second interval felt hard but I kept going and pushed on through the third and fourth.
My 5th km coincided with the end of the 4th interval – rather convenient really! After finishing the run on my Garmin I received alerts of two records: fastest 1km of 4 mins 54 secs and fastest 1 mile in 8 minutes 29 secs. That explains why it felt so tough! It was also pretty amazing that the 5k was sub-30 minutes given I'd walked for 9 of them!
Now looking forward to my longer run at an easy pace! I'm not sure whether to do it on Sunday or take a few days rest. I'll see how I feel on Sunday, I think.
