Slow run stopping and starting to let Kate catch up

Through the abbey ruins, Then through Abbey Meadows, over the weir. Very exhilarating running with the water thundering beneath, churning into white crests, powerful and scary and beautiful. Then just made it across the lock gates as a big pleasure cruiser was easing into the lock. And past the pirate barge, it’s skull and crossbones flag flapping and straining, into the teeth of the wind, a massive gust holding me back so that I was running at walking pace for a few minutes. I did a kilometre less than Kate because I kept walking to let her catch up. She’s speeding up though, and I suspect she will be running as fast as me soon.

Well done supporting your friend Kate. Was your flat running easier with a real world running buddy?

in reply toKatnap

Thank you x no not really. She runs much slower than me so I had to keep stopping and waiting for her.

That's so good to be supporting your friend. As you say, before long she will be running at your pace too. It must be lovely having a buddy to run with on a regular basis.

It's interesting because neither of us wanted to run last night, but we encouraged each other and both felt better for it. On my own, I wouldn't have run. Kate teaches at a school in Abingdon, where we now live, so she comes over Fridays to have a meal anyway, so we have been tacking the run onto that.

Sounds like a lovely run despite the wind - it's weird running but going nowhere for a few seconds during those gusts isn't it? Good to hear that you can support Kate more now that you're closer. It'll be a nice way to end the working week for her. Hope you're feeling well settled there. 🙂

It WAS lovely, though I'm still so tired from the move that I can't seem to run far or fast. Kate has been running with me most Fridays since she began c25k before Christmas, but she was having to drive all the way out to Chipping norton. It's much better here as she's just round the corner with work. We've been friends for getting on for 30 years, so it's a relaxed way to run, we know each other so well we don't have to make allowances. I don't mind that she's slower, and she doesn't mind me waiting while she catches up.

I'm so much happier here than chipping norton. i'm a townie but love running off road, and this gives me both x

The best of both worlds for running! You'll not want for varying, interesting routes, lucky you. Hope the sleeping is improving? And did you see Irish John's post about speed with link to an article? Slow is good! 🐌♥️

Sleeping really well since we moved here. The other house had a disturbing energy, very conflicted. Also (it was another really old property) I used to wake at 4am regularly, thinking I needed to get the fires laid for the day!

I will take a look at the link - but I’ve read before that slow builds everything, including speed, and this was born out when I did Marcothon and got dasterfaster

I’m still trying to get my daughter back to running again. I love running on my own but I really enjoyed that we had something we could both do together even though she was about 1 and 1/2 mins faster a mile than me. there are lovely runs round here and I think it would help her unwind but with the stress of job and moving she has stopped exercising , put on weight and the last time she came with me she ran for 10 mins, then turned and went home and told me to carry on without her.

Really I prefer running on my own but it was nice every now and then to run with her.

I will be able to run with my daughter sometimes too, and I love that, even though she's faster than me. i hope yours gets back into running soon.

Hey Flick!! Sounds like an adventure!! 😍 I’m sure Kate will be eager to go out again! Running with you, what’s not to love?! If I hadn’t just got in, I’d be tempted to go back out!! 😉! Enjoy! ❤️

It's very interesting along the Thames Path in Abingdon. But so wild at the moment x
