If it is quicker to walk than run up a hill...

...should I just walk? Or is the running still getting me fitter than walking? I was so chuffed the other week when I finally ran all the way up my nemesis (13% grade for half a km) instead of walking the last bit or cutting across the fields. But now I’ve done it three times and Strava says walking is definitely faster!

Sometimes it is definitely quicker to walk up a hill depending on the gradient. You’ve run up it three times so you can safely say you’ve conquered it so really you can do what you want next time! If it was a race then speed is more relevant so you could walk up this one... it’s all fun 🙂

I had such a hill today, I opted to power walk it. Garmin had me about 9:30min/km instead of 7min/km flat running. No way can I walk at that pace. You do what you think is best - your run/your way, own it. Well done for conquering it. Happy running 🤗

Unless you're in a hurry to get somewhere, I'd say run. Being able to take both feet of the ground during your stride requires strength and stamina that walking doesn't. Having said that, power walking up hill will do wonders for your cardio. 👍

Depends why you’re running the route. When I’m out on my own I often run up hills I might be faster walking because I enjoy the sensation and achievement. On the rare occasions I’m running competitively I’ll chose the fastest option. On really steep sections even the best hill runners will switch to walking. Trying to run them uses way too much energy!

C25K embedded the "don't stop" mentality, so my vote is definitely for grinding it out. Ive often wondered if someone will come walking by me on the really steep hills. I find self-admonishment works wonders as well. Well done for beating your nemesis hill!!
