Has anyone just been on 15 mg Mirtazapine long term and found it to be therapeutic rather than just an aid to sleep and appetite stimulant?

Mirtazapine dosage
Yup its realy worked for me............. I started on 15mg and have been taking it long term and its helped keep me on an even keel............. My dosage has been upped cos Ive been on it long term, in the short term I came off it, but as soon as I had a hiccup in my life, I felt I couldnt cope, and I feel Im better on it, it just relaxes me enough to be able to cope with lifes downs............ hopefully i will come off it agian, or reduce my dosage... but at the min Im going through a break up and have had to move back home and have to start my life over, get job etc, so for the min it is helping me.........
Hope this helps??

Yes I am currently on 15mg tablets which is ok for me right now but I haven't been on them for long. If you feel you need to be on them longer term then yes I would think you'd need to increase the dose. Invariably your GP would know best.
Hi, I've been on mirtazapine 45mg daily for 3 yrs, I take 15mg on a morning and 30mg on a night. I've had a complete break for 9mnths due to pregnancy (I stopped taking them as soon as I found out) and started them again 15 wks ago, i was advised not to breastfeed and to go straight back on them. They were a great help for the first three years but I have to say this time around they are not helping like they did before. I know I'm dealing with postnatal depression now aswell as gad, panic attacks, cbt and taking care of my partner, my teenager and a newborn but surely I should be feeling some benefit. I haven't even gained any weight I gave birth 15 wks ago and weigh 61/2 stone surely this isn't right! I can only guess that i have built up a tolerance?!?! . X
Yeah I did mirtazapine for a while but it made me sleepy so I switched to sertroline. But I do take 15mg to help me sleep. I can't sleep without it.
I don't know how you cope with 30 mg a night Trying4eva! That would put my lights out for 2 days!

Hi bev, it's not so much the 30mg on a night it's the 15mg on a morning I struggle with. If I'm not particularly anxious (it happens, not very often, but it happens) it sometimes makes me sleepy. But the night time one is like I haven't even taken it! i wake up to check my newborn, feed him, etc. I was worried at first that I wouldn't wake up for him, but I do, I can only assume my motherly instincts are stronger than mirtazapine hope you have a good day. X
I agree that my dosage is not as effective this time as when I first took them and Im on 45mg per night, however we dont know what we would be like if we werent taking them.......... Id probably be in a right state with myself!!
Im hoping to wean myself down once I have my life back on track after my relationship breakdown........

hi just notice your all taking mertazipine,i was given zispin, whitch is the same, but afaid to take them,i was afraid of the side effects,do they make you very dizzy,or lower your blood pressure,or cause balance problems, could some of you please let me know the start up side effects, and how long they last..thanks all.xxxx
Hi there
Yes when I first started to take these, which i always take at night, after about 30 - 40 mins I would feel really dizzy and sleepy and it really knocked me out for at least 10 hours if not more, but as they get in your system this subsides... howevr they still make me sleepy after 30 mins and I get a very good nights sleep and prob sleep for about 9 or 10 hours...... but they have worked really well for me and a life saver........... so I wouldnt worry too much about that, just take it before you go to bed and make sure ypou have about 12 hours before you have to get up , at least when you first start taking them.... oh and you do get a massive appetite with them too, I put a good bit of weight on..........
hope this helps xx
