So I’m two weeks in on Mirtazapine for anxiety and I have no motivation and I’m becoming a recluse! I sleep 10 hrs and have lost interest in the things that I used to love, this drug can’t be good for me can it, I realise it’s only two weeks! it can take up to 4 to 6 to work effectively but I seem to be going backwards! So do I wait up or quit?

Hello :-)

I was talking to someone only last night and they had started on a med not the same but they are all similar

They were saying the first few weeks they felt they were going backwards like you but now they have started to feel better and getting the benefit from them , they nearly gave up but glad they didn't

If it was me maybe give it another 2 weeks if you still feel the same tell your Doctor , the dosage may need reducing or trying you on something different

Let us know how you get on but know this can be quite normal to start with :-)

Take Care x

Thanks for reply, I’ll give it another few weeks, although its weird waiting for a drug to kick in! Just at the moment I can’t see a way out of this hole when I’m so de motivated by the sedation this drug brings!

Hi

I understand but it is something new your body is not used to but as you adjust that feeling should not be as intense in making you feel this way

So many say this is how they felt to start with

Try not to over think ( says me that over thinks everything ! ) but maybe tell yourself right I will give this another 2 weeks and if I feel the same I will go back and ask them to change it , you just may find in 2 weeks time you feel so much better :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Hi.....I am on mirtazapine too & had to increase the dose to 30mg in December & it took a good 6 weeks to feel any benefit from the increased dose, in fact I was feeling so bad I wanted to stop taking it, but I’m glad I stuck with it. I’m don’t always feel on top of the world, sometimes I have an off day, but I have more good days than bad now.

Hi what made you up the dose to 30mg? Did you have any side effects going up to 30mg? Does the sedation get any different on 30mg?, just feeling a bit blah atm, how long were you on 15mg? So when you upped the dose it took 6 weeks from the time you started 30mg to feel better? Sorry for all the questions Arlene ;-)

All the best!

Hi Pam, I was prescribed 15 mg, but I started halving the tab & taking 7.5, I done this for several months, but then I hit a really bad patch and increased to 15mg.....that still did not help so GP increased me to 30 mg in early December, but I can honestly say I was just about ready to quit after 3/4 weeks as I was finding no benefit, but my GP encouraged me to continue & im glad, but I would say it took about 6 weeks before I felt in any that they were helping. I still have days where I feel not too great when I wake up, but when I get up & get motivated I feel much better. So for the foreseeable future I will be sticking with 30mg & trusting they continue to help me through this. Feel free to spk to me anytime....happy to help. I had invaluable support from this site xx
