I was wondering whether most people suffering from anxiety, whatever their age and however long they'be been suffering from it, can actually pinpoint a traumatic event or situation which they believe started all the bad feelings? And does it help to revisit that initial experience - or is it best to leave well alone?

i very much have a specific event, this all began with my first drug experiance (which you can read it's my first blog post, I have only joined today) that was three years ago and i feel much safer knowing exactly how this came about. Unfortunatly, it's effect feels much stronger than if my anxiety had just appeared... I have a strong fear of drugs and clubs..big groups of people and maruijana smoke... I can revisit the experiance when people really want to know what happened, but I tend to spend the next day or two feeling sad and thoughtful about it all. like talking about it makes me think "oh, actually, i had sort of forgotten" and I guess it reopens the wounds. But I don't know that leaving it alone is a good idea... ignoring traumatic experiances can lead to random outburst of anxiety that leave us going "why did that happen I'm not even stressed today?" but perhaps thinking about it constantly isn't healthy either.

It's a tough one.

Hi there,I cannot pinpoint a single event that causes my anxiety,I don't feel depressed just a permanent jittery feeling in my gut and a real difficulty concentrating or relaxing. It seems to increase as the day goes on,dont know why.I only start to relax after my evening Zopiclone and Kalm cocktail, not ideal, but there you go.What does not help obviously or not is caffeine, avoid.Take care.

Thank you. It's exactly the same for me. There was no 'event' - just that one day, six or seven weeks ago, I started shaking inside. I'm not depressed either and don't have the awful feelings that some of the others visiting this site have. Zopiclone works for me too. But I do drink Coca-Cola (not tea or coffee) so shall now try plain water and see if that helps. Thanks again for the suggestion.
