What Can I Do About It?

Hi, everyone. So, I have been struggling for months now with sounds in my environment. I'm wondering if I can dissolve the sounds that I hear by accepting that the sounds are around me and will continue to be around me but aren't going to harm me. I'm wondering if I should acknowledge the sounds that I hear and then let them fall back off in the background. I'm wondering if this technique works. The ultimate goal is to lessen the impact that my negative physical and emotional state has on me. So, I'm wondering if I acknowledge that the sounds are around me and then give let the sounds have "their day" that it will lessen the pain and discomfort that I feel. Any responses are welcome.

Thank you.

it definitely depends on the sounds. If they really are a safety concern, you should be heightened… but if you believe your body is over reacting, there are things you can do. You can play Lofi music on the radio, but if sounds are too loud, you can get earbuds that will take those away. If music isn’t your thing, there are loop earplugs that many people are raving about. If you still need more sounds but not so “twangy”, there are also flare ear pieces that look like a funnel.

I want to find a way to hear the sounds but be able to ignore it without an emotional reaction.

Then I would recommend the flares to try first. Also, emdr or DBT may teach some strategies. I know there’s a ptsd medication that may help too (I haven’t taken it, but a group counseling peer raved about it). a.co/d/3IXyRNb

hi Eric ,I have tinnitus ( noise in my ears) and it is continuous and medical people said it cant be treated so I decided the best way was to ignore it , even when it gets louder which it does now and then . I use a computer ,use a smart phone and watch tv and it all helps. I also have a hobby looking after wild life that comes to my yard , mainly squirrels and birds , I feed them twice a day and give them water . This may sound boring but it beats the tinnitus . Being occupied helps with most mental health issues. You could also listen to the sounds and try to enjoy them , even repeat them , sing along with them. I do wish you well and just wish I could help more.
