Good afternoon. I wanted to reply to this message as this is something which I am struggling with at the moment. I find that my anxiety and negative thoughts are causing silent panic attacks and this is something which come and go and yes it is mentally and physically exhausting. I know not everyone can but I have taken some time off work so that I can have a lunchtime nap and my god I wake up and feel so refreshed and it resets me. Either that or try and listen to some meditation music and focus on that.
I always struggled with the day after drinking alcohol which is one of the main reasons I no longer drink it. I have heard many people speak about anxiety the day after drinking so it’s pretty normal. For me, at the moment, I am having a lot of anxious dreams which are pretty vivid. I then wake and understandably feel anxious. My heart is racing and I feel so vulnerable and alone even though my partner is next to me. It’s a suffocating feeling and as this happens every day, my hope for recovery diminishes. I have however had a CBT session today and we have discussed how we are best to manage my emotions when I wake up. First I need to have a good nighttime routine so I have to stop binge eating and watch something less dramatic and intense. When I wake up and feel anxious I need to utilise my skills such as breathing and distraction. Allow myself to feel uneasy but remind myself that it will pass and does pass as time goes on. It’s hard and it will take time but be kind to yourself and be patient.
They are tiring because your body is preparing you to either fight or run away from a tiger so it dumps fuel into the system in preparation, that is why you are depleted of energy afterwards. Dr Harry Barry has great explanations of what is going on during an episode and how to treat it. drharrybarry.com/resources/
Yes because you are probably unconsciously tensing your muscles tightly (bracing for the tiger attack). It is also possible that you aren't sleep very well at the moment. It is very common to feel tired all the time when going through anxiety but there are ways to counter that.
