Buspirone and mixed feelings

Hello all. I've read many peoples accounts here that have experience taking Buspirone for anxiety. As with any medication, it seems to have worked well for some, but unfortunately hasn't for others. It isn't uncommon for some people to be on numerous medications at the same time, either for the same thing or for different disorders. I found this to be the case in a lot of the accounts I've read regarding those that have taken, or are taking Buspirone. Although the question of Buspirone's effectiveness for anxiety has been asked by countless others, I wanted to ask once again, but only for those that have taken it as mono-therapy for anxiety, rather than in combination with other medications.

I'd like to hear whether it has been successful in controlling your anxiety, whether you had side effects or not, and approximately how long it may have taken before you noticed any positive results, if any. For those that have experienced positive results from it, I'd also like to hear the dosage you were on per day, and how many times per day when it started to work for you.

Although I need something to give relief from the extreme anxiety I've been experiencing lately, I feel I'm grasping at straws. I had asked my primary care provider for a medication I know works and works quickly, having tried some from a family member, but he refused and suggested Buspirone instead. Out of frustration I agreed to try it even though it seems it may take a couple of weeks. I think many have been in the situation where we felt we couldn't wait another day for some kind of relief, but had to face the reality of having to do so. Thanks for any responses in advance, and may we all find peace.

Hi there! I was prescribed Buspirone right when the pandemic started in April 2020, I was getting these chest pains and thought there was some issue with my heart but turned out to be anxiety. My PCP put me on Buspirone and said it was an “introductory” anxiety medication, sorry forgot the exact dosage but it wasn’t much, and said it would take about two weeks before I started to notice its effects. For me I didn’t notice too much of a change, from what I remember it made me dizzy and I had some ringing in my ears, I stopped using it shortly after.

I was taking buspirone as an add on to an SSRI. It didn't seem to have any effect, so my psychiatrist switched me to another add on, which did seem to help some.
