In the last few months I have been struggling to go to school or social events because I fear something bad will happen. I’ve even struggled to go to the gas station at night and fear my house will get broken into. It has gotten to the point where I can’t sleep and am in fear everyday. I’m not sure if anyone has had similar experiences and know of any tips to help. I recently started journaling but I don’t want to start medications just yet. Thank you!

You might spend some time trying to determine why and how you developed your irrational fears. Did you experience some form of trauma that created them, did you have a difficult traumatic childhood? Are you suppressing difficult/traumatic emotions? Trying to understand helps in getting the kind of help you need. If you experienced some form of trauma it may be helpful to find a trauma therapist to work with or you might find a therapist to work with to help you understand and deal with your irrational fears. You may find medication helpful at least temporarily. The sooner you get help the better off you will be.
