The word "compulsive" has triggered me

Ok so this may sound odd, but I am a heart worrier and worry about my heart rate going up and up til it explodes.

And thanks to the pandemic I have developed outrageous beliefs around it, this recent one being worse. So learning more about the word "compulsive" and how it means an obsessive urge to do something, it triggered me immensely because now I think I'll develop a "compulsion" to make my heart rate go up or to have constant panic attacks. It makes me think I'll die because of it. :( I know it sounds silly and it is, but I don't know how to feel about it. Any advice? Thanks

Hi Marc, what goes up, must come down including your heart rate. This can be done by medication or by the power within you.

With practice, this compulsion you have to bring your heart rate up

can also be used positively in bringing it down.

I use my breathing technique in getting through many stressful events.

Breathing properly can reduce the levels of adrenaline in you as well as

lower your blood pressure and heart rate.

Take a look at YouTube and the videos on Breathing. When you breathe

properly, you mind and body react to that and you feel good.

Whenever something goes off and you start feeling physically unwell,

check your breathing. You will properly see that you are hyperventilating

or actually holding your breath. Once you regain control, both your mind

and body will settle down.

You are not going to die. You have more power over your body than you

think. Our body is made to survive and will do anything to stay alive.

Believe in that my friend :) xx
