How comes my blood pressure shoots up so high when I’m nervous!
Hi new friend and Welcome! When we are nervous, we have a hormone surge that effects our blood pressure.
It happens automatically preparing our body for the "fight or flight" response.
It can be controlled by practicing Meditation and Breathing exercises. Over time
your body will respond in a more positive way when getting stressed out.
You can actually breathe your stress away. It does take practice.
As for becoming obsessed in taking your blood pressure, that does nothing but
increase your anxiety by seeing the numbers change from one time to another.
I use to be the same way many years ago.
You may need to put aside the machine where you can't see it for a while.
If you are a healthy individual, there should be no reason to monitor your b/p
multiple times a day or week.
I'm happy that you are here with us, You are no longer alone in your struggle
with Anxiety. xx
Hello, I am the same exact way! Obsessed lest even describe me. I will take my BP around 20:times a day! I will get totally different numbers several times in a row. If it’s high I just lay on my bed scared o move cause may have a stroke or heart attack. It’s crazy I know. Just the sound of the cuff inflating makes me anxious and I will cut it off . I have been to counseling, am on Anxiety meds and Antidepressants, nothing works for me
One of the worst things you can do for your anxiety is to hyper-focus on something like your blood pressure. Your blood pressure normally varies throughout the day. Your hyper-vigilance just increases your blood pressure and is a distorted attempt at maintaining control and all it will do is prolong your anxiety. The best thing to do is put the BP machine away in a drawer and get on with living your life.
