Hi newbie here so just an introduction. I have recently been in hospital with necrotising fasciitis( flesh eating disease), which is very rare. I had 20%chance of survival but I fought hard. I was in intensive care for 3 days on ventilator, also in high dependency unit, surgical ward then plastics ward all within 4 weeks. I was then discharged with community nurses to change dressings. I though I had been great and just went with the flow because I had no choice. Now I am suffering with ptsd, not sleeping, really jumpy, not even crafting or drawing ( which is major in my life as its my calm time) I cant even lift a pencil to draw because I lose my concentration. I have flash backs of certain things, eg I was sick in my oxygen mask after coming off ventilator and i remeber not being able to shout for help or move. I remeber my bed being tipped, the water running down my neck to head, and the smell of shea butter soap. Shea butter soap makes me physically sick if I smell it now. I feel stuck and need answers to help me move on but I don't know who to ask? as its so specific to my time in hospital. Icu don't offer help to those who have been in previously like other hospitals do and my gp cant give me answers just local charity's for counselling. The problem is necrotising fasciitis is so rare that there is only one charity in the whole of the UK,lee spark foundation. They are not local to me as they are in England. I need some ideas on how to calm my panic attacks and jumping at the least wee sound.

There is such a thing as ICU psychosis. I know about this as my husband had it after a 2 week ICU stay due to a car accident. You have been through so much more. Is it possible for you to see a psychiatrist? Your experience was so traumatic that it may help you to talk about it and express the awful fear and disorientation you must have felt, with a therapist. I am glad that at least physically you have recovered.

You have been through so very much, Jolly190. What I can advise is for you to check out this forum, it is a part of HealthUnlocked, so safe and informative.healthunlocked.com/healmyptsd
