I've suffered from health anxiety for over 20 years now and I'd love no know how you did it Dennis.

Read All The Way For A Glimpse Into My Recovery Please,

Well to understand my recovery you must first under how anxiety REALLY works: The AMYGDALA processes everything before your conscious brain kicks in and says no, we really don't have to worry about this situation, the AMYGDALA has already started the whole process going, already started the adrenaline rush and symptoms, palms sweating breathing etc.

That Small almond shaped portion of the brain which is your early warning detection device, picks up thing in the environement, starts the fight or flight process, bear in the woods, danger, Sometimes amygdala fires up and misinterprets danger when there is nothing going on. MOST professionals and therapists teach how to cope, not to end anxiety, breath... distract yourself... happy thoughts wait for it to pass.... deep breathing and distracting isnt gonna work, all they're getting is band-aids to cover up the problem.

What I did was I followed a step by step process (the tools), but before the tools I had to understand WHAT was truly happening in my mind and body, and I've just given you all a tiny glimpse of the vast research I had to do in order to get to the bottom of it all and stop living a life of reaction. I hired a coach, someone who didn't have the papers of a mental health 'professional,' but someone who understood me and has been where I was and overcame their own issue naturally. The coach helped me identify many things, a panic attack for instance is when your heart beats much more quickly and in my time with anxiety my fear was of fainting and losing control, my coach taught me that you wont faint because blood pressure rising and blood to brain which means you wont faint, dizzines because of breathing pattern. He helped me with managing stress, REAL relaxation techniques, sleep habits, diet.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Systematic Exposure therapy is best, BUT, only if it is done with the help of a guide. because without one you'll fall flat on your face when setbacks occur. These are the 6 steps I have come up with in my own life to recover, again, implementing these alone is extremely difficult without the help of a guide or coach.

1) complete acceptance

2) becoming knowledgable

3) building on facts

4) taking action

5) acceting setbacks

6) patience

This is the formula I used, notice how none of it uses medication, herbs, or other external things? This was with someone (me) who was in a level 9.9 out of 10 daily with anxiety, fear of physical symptoms and anxiety.

There's an intro into my recovery everyone.

Dennis

Good morning! Do you have any tips on depersonalization? Once I start feeling that I can't seem to focus on anything else and get really scared.

in reply to vbylicki

Depersonalizaion comes with a feeling of living in a bubble. It is due to the root of your anxiety, for me it was a fear of symptoms and health anxiety. Once I overcame those fears, I was able to overcome depersonalization.

Hello,

First I want to say that I am so happy that I came across this site, reading about people who suffer the same kind of disorder than I do. I also suffer from anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder but more specifically health anxiety since a very young age. I take a bit of Ativan once in a while when things become way out of control but medication is not my option, actually I am afraid of medication. I am so exhausted to live this way, fear of cancer, autoimmune diseases, neuromuscular diseases etc... Developing tones of symptoms resembling all these diseases. It seems that nothing is really helping. At least it is reassuring to know that many other people suffer from the same disorder and that alone is already a huge help and relief. Thank you to all of you for sharing your experience.
