Anyone suffer from their heart skipping beats? Since yesterday afternoon it feels like my heart is skipping a beat and jumping into my throat I was having this feeling about 2 years ago, checked with a cardiologist who said I was having benign PVC'S and put me on a beta blocker - the last 24 hours have been horrible.

I have this same thing all the damn time! I was actually coming here to seek comfort about it! Doc says I'm fine, put me on a beta blocker for mildly elevated blood pressure and to control anxiety symptoms too. But I'll have days, FULL DAYS, where it feels like it never, ever stops.

I am on a beta blocker also but the last 2 days have been horrible. My heart is raving and then every few minutes it skips and jumps into my throat. Went to the cardiologist and got and EKG which is normal. He said he wants to increase the beta blocker but since I don’t have high blood pressure it might make me dizzy- no thanks

Hi Soapstr4 are you still getting your skipped beats because im getting them all the time too now. There was a period that i went through that for days i would not get them but now since my husband passed away in February i seemed to be getting them everyday. I am on a beta blocker Bisoprol 10 mg.

Hi, I am sorry about your loss. Yes I still get them all day everyday. Doc put me on an anti-depressant to help with my anxiety, I am hoping they will stop. Such a scary and horrible feeling

Hi Soapstr4 i totally agree with you. It the most horrible feeling and you just seem to wait for the next one to come. I have noticed that my shoulders are permanently hunched upwards and i just cannot seem to relax them. I was also on an anti depressant called Tripolene but it almost put me in a coma i was so tired . Which Anti depressant are you on . Are you on a Beta Blocker as well. I just cannot get rid of my stress. Im looking for help anywhere.

I have these most days. I'm on a beta blocker for SVT and I have been to the doctor and cardiologist but they are not concerned. Some days I get them and it feels like you do when you're just over having the wind knocked out of you if that makes sense, or like when you've just recovered from a jump-scare. I find that I notice them more if I have had a few glasses of wine the day before, if I'm stressed or had a bad nights sleep and they are definitely more frequent around my cycle. My doctor said the only treatment is to increase the beta blocker which I don't want to do so I just put up with it being as I'm told it's not a cause for concern. They do worry me from time to time and they are actually the cause of my anxiety as I think, I don't want to do this or go there, what if I have an extended episode etc.

It really is the most terrible feeling. I am in menopause so maybe that is adding to it . I am on 50 mg of metoprolol and the cardiologist wants to increase it to 75mg but I am hoping it’s just anxiety making it worse or my hormones.

Anxiety will make them worse.. I had PVC’s for years and years. 🥴 Only When you finally, really believe that they are benign and they don’t threaten your health/life will they disappear... the adrenaline that comes with fearful thoughts keeps them going 🤦🏼‍♀️. Just ignore them and go about your life...they will not hurt you....😍

Hi Dixie9326 how did you manage to change your whole mindset to these horrible skipped beats. I have tried to not concentrate on them but the minute i get one the worry starts all over again. I just wish i can realize they are benign and caused from my stress levels. I envy you for overcoming them. They are busy destroying my life.

I’m an retired Emergency Department Rn and have had them for more years than I can remember.. I certainly would have expired by now if they were anything serious:)🥴..so when I’d get them I’d say to myself, “ it’s no big deal” and went about whatever I was doing...not easy for sure but I figured if I died from them all that worrying would be over !!! 😂. I made light of them and on rare occasions I’ll get a few but totally ignore it!!!

Keep trying... THEY WILL NOT HURT YOU...but you are surly hurting yourself...that’s the hard part, we torture ourselves ...if the Dr. says they’re benign, so be it:)):): Good luck:)🥰

Wow this is literally a perfect explanation of what I go through. I always try to explain it to people and have difficulty. I do find stress and lack of sleep causes mine . I have some good days and some bad days but don’t let it stop you from living. Sit back breath and tell yourself you’ve been through it before and you’ll get through it again.

Yes I have this every day. Benign PVC like you. The beta blockers help but don’t prevent the skipped beats 100% of the time. Mine will flare up sometimes for no reason or if I’m anxious. Sometimes eating will set them off. They’re benign but so hard to ignore!

Yes!! It is such a scary feeling to be sitting at work and out of nowhere your heart skips and jumps. It was ok for awhile and now it’s back

I always feel like I’ve missed a step going downstairs when it happens. Soooo hard to believe it’s nothing serious! But 3 doctors, bunches of tests, and an ER trip says nothing is wrong.

Lately it feels like when I am walking my heart starts skipping a beat

I get it a lot when I’m walking or trying to exercise a little bit. It I also get it when I’m doing nothing. It could be helpful to wear the 24 hour monitor if you haven’t already. Your doctor can see what’s going on in there. I had a stress test too. Lasted 7 minutes and then did an ultrasound of my heart right after I stopped walking. They could see my heart skipping but it wasn’t any kind of structural issue. Just for peace of mind it could be worth checking out.

Sorry to find another person in the throes of this worrying condition....

Please realise ectopic beats are not life threatening....just a confounded nuisance....there are ways to put things right and its cheap and easy.

Ectopics are very common...one quick short term fix is to drink some bicarbonate of soda in water...if this works ..it is because it lowers circulating calcium in the blood....longer more lasting fix is to start taking magnesium...any food such as bananas or leafy greens will work..but the best by far is magnesium taurate...easy to buy Amazon/eBay.Magnesium Taurate is mainly found in the heart muscle it causes the heart muscle to relax and counteracts calcium...which contracts heart muscles. What seems to happen is when magnesium becomes too low in the blood..it leaves its receptor space empty in a part of the heart muscle...calcium ions then fill the unoccupied magnesium receptors... this upsets the delicate..balance which over excites parts of the heart causing premature beats...taking magnesium soon re occupies those cells and thus restores natural rhythm...this often happens after stress or vigorous exercise...Sinus rhythm and poor vagal tone just makes things more troubling..

A blood test for magnesium is very hard to achieve because only 1% is ever in the blood...60% resides in your bones...and 39% in muscle so asking for a blood test is pointless....and that my dear friends is why most Doctors dont think its important....when heart attack patients are given magnesium in the first few days....its because it is known to heal damaged muscle and restore rhythm.

I used to suffer with these off and on for about 40 years...now i take about 500 mg a day (1 capsule)and they have stopped happening...

If you need a Doctors slant on this..

research Dr Sanjay Gupta York cardiologist YouTube...

Or

drcarolyndeanlive.com

Both explain why magnesium is so important for regulating the heart.

Best wishes.
