Weird pain in my right shoulder

So I get these shocks kinda pain in my right shoulder, out of the blue. Once or twice a month. It is so painful, it comes one shock after the other and I become unable to move. My entire arm starts to hurt, it's literally mind-numbing.

The pain is so bad that I am on the floor. It just comes in waves, one after the other.

And just like that, it vanishes. It comes unannounced and it goes after a minute.

Any idea what it could be?

That is odd anxiety can cause us to feel a lot of odd sensations. I am wondering if it feels like your holding in a sneeze or a itch ?

No, it doesn't. I do not know the cause of it. It is just a stabbing pain, that just occurs out of the blue once a month or once every three months.

I didn't know where to post the question so I just posted it here. But I don't know what it could be. :(

We are not doctors, so no idea what it could be. The pain sounds severe, however, so it should be checked by your doctor, or perhaps by a neurologist.

Hi Jolly_Treacle, this pain even though infrequently (though severe) should be addressed by a doctor who may order an MRI. There are so many issues that could be causing this pain including something as simple as repetitive movement that you do on occasion.

I wish you well in finding some answers. Keep us updated. I care :) xx

Do these occur at particular times of the day, after eating?Have you changed pillows/ mattresses?....sleeping in different positions..so many questions....but often some change in routine can trigger symptoms out of the blue.

Have you tried to move something heavy......reaching round for seatbelts...this can cause shoulder impingements.Right shoulder pain causes can be difficult to pinpoint and should be discussed with your GP....

Hope things settle down for you real soon.

Not a physician, but I've had shoulder issues over the last two years stemming from a pinched nerve to an impinged muscle. My last flare-up is from the last snow storm in my area and there was a lot to shovel. I was waking up with pins and needles sensation in my hand because the inflammation was bad. I have PT exercises and I ice the front of my shoulder now. Definitely see your doctor or chiropractor - it could be as simple as a pinched muscle. Hang in there and good luck!

Thank you, everyone. I will definitely get it checked. It just comes and goes on its own and isn't after strenuous activity or so. That is why I never got it checked. But it has been years now and I will definitely take up everyone's advice and get it examined. Will let everyone know what the doctor says. Again, Thank you!
