Ectopic beats

Anybody have any experience with ectopic beats? I’ve worn a holter recently and waiting on results. Had every test under the sun and everything is fine. Pretty sure this is ectopic beats brought on by anxiety. My question: do anti anxiety meds help with ectopic beats? Curious as to what the remedy for this might be. I have started walking more, cut out most of my caffeine and working on eliminating sugar. Also incorporating meditation and sleep stories before bed. I can tell this happens a lot when I’m anxious or tense. They’re unsettling but I’m working on not letting them bother me, too. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi Stella....i am not a Doctor...yet i have lived with this condition for 40 years.Heres some things i discovered over the years.

Anxiety certainly does increase adrenaline AND noradrenline....think of it as the body's accelerator and braking system.

Ectopic beats that happen at rest are really a weak pulse followed quickly by a stronger one....this is a safeguard the body uses to ensure blood keeps getting sent to your brain....when you focus on the "thump" you feel in your chest or neck you start to tense up thinking you can stop another one.Instead you increase the two hormones i mentioned...This then becomes a circle you never seem to have control over. When your anxiety is running long term, you use up energy and resources that help your body relax, namely magnesium. If you ate a banana or spinach you would have less ectopics because both foods contain a higher amount of magnesium and potassium.I started using magnesium taurate as a supplement when i found out this helps people with arrythmias.Magnesium Threonate calms down the mind.It is quite safe, and you only need 1 tablet/capsule a day to see a real change in the rhythm.Magnesium relaxes the arteries and muscles and is a very important mineral.Viral infections, stress, long term illness will deplete your body.

Gentle walking for 30 minutes each day, will help.So will 30 minutes relaxation excercises.Youtube has many useful tutorials on relaxation.

If you are afraid of taking a supplement you can try epson salts in a bath...the skin absorbs magnesium quite easily.Research Dr Carolyn Dean who explains the relationship between heart rhythm and magnesium...Finally if you are taking calcium in food or supplement then this could be why you have developed this condition.,,.magnesium will just normalise your system any excess is just sent back out the body...whereas calcium gets stored in joints and arteries ....and messes up heart rhythms..Sorry for the info overload..hope some of this helps.

A really good book was written back in the 1980's By an Australian psycologist Dr.Claire Weekes who explains all the various "heart" associated with anxiety symptoms and how to float past them , pay no heed....they will not cause harm...just a niggling nuisance you can overcome.

I wrote a long reply to you but replying in the wrong area. Go back to my original post please. And you will see my reply. It looks like I replied to myself. Sigh. 🤣

Hi there. Thanks so much for your reply and the information. I have started taking magnesium, but not sure it is the magnesium taurate you mentioned. Is there a difference? Yes, I am very familiar with Dr. Claire Weekes. She is amazing.

I feel like my anxiety manifests in different ways to worry me, and once I am not worried by one symptom, another symptom starts up. Years ago it was shortness of breath. Once I learned to get over that, it became panic attacks at night. Once I learned to let those just happen and float past them, now it’s the ectopic beats. Anxiety is like its own “person” doing things to unnerve me. I realize that sounds ridiculous, but that is what I liken it to.

Thanks for information and your reply. I’ve had stress test and echocardiograms and cardiologists telling me everything is fine. Waiting on another cardiologist to look at this holter. can’t see him for two weeks so guess it’s not an emergency! Ha! Then I really just need to lay this to rest and work on my mental health and meditation.

I do have some anti-anxiety medications but I don’t like taking anything. Do you know if anti-anxiety meds help with ectopic beats at all?

Thanks again.

Everyone is different so I can only say my initial journey at the start involved medication.I was taking 28 tablets a day aftera year i decided it was not helping so i weaned off all medication.Over the years i get short periods of ectopics, especially when i am run down , or i over exercise.Betablockers (a small dose 10mg propranolol) took the edge off mine, now i just use relaxation "me time" and avoid situations where i am not in control of my timeline.Food is important...my cure all was always porridge...and the usual vitamin therapy. The stomach shares the same vagus nerve as the heart and it could be bloating.Try vagus nerve exercises.

When i get ectopics ...a quick cure is a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in warm water but dont go overboard...this should be used when problem is very troublesome.

You can fine tune your life and these things will go away once you find your equilibrium.

Thanks for all your replies, i hope somethings will get you on the path to symptom free.Didnt explain that Magnesium Taurate is mainly found in the heart muscle....so must be necessary for normal cardiac function...and people with A-fibrillation and other palpitations often get relief using that one.

Research Dr York Cardiologist Youtube Magnesium Taurate .

Yes, I sure do. Try Magnesium. I use Magnesium Taurate. After my father passed I had a huge increase in them. I was already taking Magnesium Citrate for restless legs, but decided to do some research on which type was best for the skipped beats/palpitations. I settled on Taurate from my research and it has really helped. I rarely have them now. Hope that helps.

So magnesium and magnesium taurate are two different things? Just verifying. I take regular magnesium but will look into this. Thanks so much.

No, Magnesium is Magnesium. There are different types. Taurate, Citrate, Glycinate, Orotate, etc. So just do some research on the different types. What I read was the Taurate was better for the heart and palpitations.

Just bought some. Thanks!

Yes i agree with osbo54 Magnesium Taurate is the go to out of all the magnesium variations....It does not have the side effects of prescription based medicines and your body will thankyou for it.

Just to be clearer...here is a link to Dr Carolyn Dean..
