Not a health post exactly !

However I suppose mild anxiety comes in to it.

From August onwards until cold weather it is the spider season and I loathe them big time. We had our first last night in our bedroom and I slept in the lounge leaving hubby who doesn't like them alone. If anybody suffers badly from this, what spray will kill them pronto ? I know we shouldn't do this for all you insect lovers out there. Also if you are like me, what actions do you take to calm yourself down ?

The fear of spiders (anxiety provoking) does have a medical name. Arachnophobia can be treated using cognitive behaviour therapy. It usually doesn't ininterfere with daily living but if it does, try a short term of therapy.

Any self help blogs for anxiety will help.

Most insect sprays work well on spiders who have small bodies but large legs, so go for the cheapest one.

Also don't watch the movie Arachnophobia made in 1990s. 🙂

Most multi insect sprays work on spiders or Terro Spider Spray kills just spiders. We spray the inside, doors and other entry ways with Ortho Home Defense Spray, this is pet friendly and kills everything that creeps in.

I hate all bugs. I have cats so they are very helpful at dealing with bugs too. Once the bugs are killed I’m okay.

I have a daughter who is petrified of spiders, even the small ones. I of course do not understand this, as we are like 1000 times bigger than them and can just squash them with a shoe. However, fears are not rational and sometimes completely unexplainable. I am petrified of bridges, for absolutely no logical reason, but the fear is still there. For me and my daughter we slowly and cautiously try to over come the fear by being exposed to it. She has to go into the garage with the spiders to get certain things. Yes, I do accompany her but she still has to do it. I would recommend you sleep with a shoe and find great pleasure in squishing them. You could try learning to like them but I don't find that works very well. Learning about spiders may help. They are actually quite unique and helpful creatures.

I get your point and agree with it. Hubby doesn't like them, but won't kill them. I have sucked them up in the hoover when he wasn't looking. A while ago I went for a spider therapy day at London Zoo. We had a talk about them and a big group hypnotherapy session. At the end we had to put a glass over one and take them outside. I did this, no problem and strangely enough had one of their tarantula spiders in the palm of my hand without any fear at all. This was in early spring, but in the autumn when faced with an English one, my fear had returned. What a waste of money was that ? When we see them late summer they are actually looking for a mate. Wish they would do their love making in the open !

I wouldn't say it was a waste, might just take more than one try. Maybe it is because the tarantula was obv where you could see it and you felt in control, whereas the others maybe it is dark and they can sneak up on you, leaving you feeling out of control. I assure you they probably are not really fond of us interrupting their mating either. LOL!

Thanks for your answer. It makes a lot of sense. My London Zoo tarantula was called Tracy and she was gorgeous I have to admit. She just rested in the palm of my hand and didn't move. Unlike a huge man who was on the course who threw a wobbly !

LOL poor man. So, you just need to name your spiders and make them pets, then you maybe won't fear them.
