How to get Klonopin to work faster

Any tips on how to get my Klonopin to kick in faster? I have panic attacks when I'm on the highway and have found it to be worse since COVID. I feel a little agoraphobic these days. Klonopin is great but it takes an hour to kick in. I'm already full blown I feel like I'm going to die panic attack and knowing it won't pass for an hour makes it soooo much worse.

Chew it versus swallow it. It's worked for me.

It can be good to have our emergency medication to help with panic attacks. I use mine as well. But another thing I try is to correct my breathing and calm my mind before the panic happens, if I can’t do that then the breathing helps. So does making a list in my head of facts vs opinions of the situation.

I know it’s so easy to just pop a pill and just wait for everything to be perfect again. Please don’t think I’m preaching to the choir here. I just know from experience and from where I am now that the answer is calming your nerves or it only gets worse and your body and brain get dependent on a medicine. Withdrawal is no joke. I just don’t want you to go through what I currently am.

I hope you feel better by now and the panic has subsided. x

Thank you for this. I also try breathing techniques and when the panic hits any other time, I'm able to bring it down. It's when I'm in situations like flying or large highways where more is needed. I hate taking pills and 30 pills lasts me a whole year. I think it's more of a security blanket for me.

You’re welcome. I understand. :) x When I’m going on a drive out of town I usually take an Ativan because I get anxious leaving my safe spot. AKA my home.

I didn't use to be unnerved when going out of town, but I am now since COVID especially. Just going for a drive far makes me feel very off.

Hi Plato38, check with your prescribing doctor. There are Klonopin wafers

that are meant to work faster by placing it under the tongue. :) xx

I use Xanax when I need quick relief. It helps just as well as klonopin but works extremely fast

I use Klonopin and let it dissolve under my tongue. Usually within 10 minutes I've forgotten what I was so anxious about.

Hi Plato38,

Please don't tell us you take the pill and then drive. That is like driving under the influence of alcohol because your nervous system and reactions slow down😕

Anxiety peaks in round about 20 minutes then subsides before cycling upwards again. If you can work out how to manage your anxiety build up without relying on a tablet, this would be best. Anon99 posted some excellent suggestions.

Practice makes perfect 🙂

I take a sliver of a dose. My script is .50 mil. But that makes me too sleepy so I take 1/4 of it. Which helps the anxiety while not making me sleepy.
