Possible nail melanoma

Hi. I am a 21 year old African American woman. I’ve been getting my nails done (acrylic/gel) for a few years now, I recently took my nails off and notice a faint grey streak on my right ring finger. I over think ALOT, like to the point where I make myself sick. I googled “black streak on nail” and came across nail melanoma which is basically skin cancer. I am really really freaking out. Has anyone seen or had this? Does this look like a nail melanoma??

Not sure why you posted this on an anxiety site? Do you suffer from anxiety?

There are no doctors or medics here so we can't possibly tell you what it is. If you are worried I can only suggest you visit your doctor.

Im no doctor but I did go to cosmetology school. Honestly it doesnt look concerning. When i take off artifical nails my nails underneath always look a little different. It looks like your coloring to me and your skin changes over time anyway so it could be just that. Looking stufg up on tge wen is never a good idea if you have health anxiety. It only makes things worse. Try to calm yourself and breathe do deep breathing and dont worry about it until you get an actual diagnosis. Worry and fear is only making you sick.

If you are worried I would recommend seeing your Dr like hyper suggested.

Hopefully it's not melanoma. But, none of us here can tell you that.

I had the same thing with a toe nail that half turned black under the nail, much darker than your finger nail. The doctor sent me to hospital where they removed the nail and biopsied it: it wasn't cancer.

The only way you will know for sure is to see your doctor.

I have the same thing with my toe nails but the opposite mine is whiter in spots. I think its from being polished all the time not seeing the changes.

She did say she’s worried about it so that shows she anxious!don’t worry love your African American black people have them. if it’s not from your melanin and come out the blue its from the nails you have banged your nail I’m a trained nail technician so I know what I’m saying

I made an appointment for this upcoming Tuesday. I’m still really nervous, I’ve been making myself sick worrying about it

I went to my dermatologist on Tuesday. He said , “I would only be worried if you were blonde with blue eyes” and to come back in two months to check again. This did not make me feel better at all as I am still very concerned

I hope you got this checked out , love. I could only say I had a brown/black spot under my toe ...I went straight to the Dr, and they did a biopsy . It was actually dried up blood :/ . I had no clue it could stay under the nail for that long haha. Anyways the spot has grown out since.

I did remember bumping my toe but didn’t think to look and see if I hit a nail. I am quite the klutz lol so....I let it go.

Again , I hope you have gotten this checked out since you posted it. Do not worry so much , you’ll be fine . Tell yourself this . I have Health anxiety but do not give in to any thoughts making you think negative . Hopefully this is something related to the nail care you usually get and it can be treated 💚
