Do you take Sertraline in the morning or at night?

Ive recently been prescribed Sertraline which Ive been taking for three days. My GP said to take either in the morning or at night. Ive been taking it in the morning between 9 - 10 am, however I kind of feel its effecting my sleep not massively but Im definitely not as tired as I was at my usual bed time and its taking much longer to fall asleep. I wonder if the time I take it makes a difference. Im just curious as to when others take theirs and why.

Thank you

Did you mean 9pm?

If you take it at 9am and it's affecting your sleep, I'm not sure what you could do.

You might try trazadone at bedtime.

If you meant 9pm, just switch it to the morning.

Also, i used to take my zoloft at night.

I also took the trazadone i mentioned so didn't notice any insomnia.

I am on a different med now but take it at night mainly because it's when i take all my other meds.

I take it at around 9 in the morning which I decided because Im sensitive to anything effecting my sleep. Im now wondering if it could be other factors effecting my sleep like being off work as so many people seem to take it at night. I suppose I will see how I get on, thank you :)

I also take sertraline but take it around 7-8pm as it normally makes you tired. If you have only just started taking it, some insomnia can be a side affect which should pass. Try taking it at a different time to see which works best for you. X

Im taking it on a morning at the moment so Im wondering if it could be other factors effecting my sleep, yet I read on another post if they took it in the morning they couldnt sleep but if just before bed they slept okay, I suppose it is trial and error. Thank you :) x

I take my sertraline every night at 11:00pm. I always have a light snack after and go to sleep at around midnight. Done that from day one because i don't like taking them in the morning.

Im starting to wonder if I should be taking mine at night, despite feeling it could be effecting my sleep? Most people seem to take them at night but I guess I will see how I manage and discuss with my doctor. Thank you :)

Hi Abbiejade3, I've been on Sertraline for over a year now. I find taking it on a morning (8am) is best for me.

Hello AbbieJade3,

I've been taking 150mg sertraline for 3 years now. When I started (on a lower dose) I would take the meds in the evening. I found this didn't work for me as my nightmares seemed to be more vivid. Now it's the first thing I do after waking up & I find this is so much better for me.

My advise is do what works best for you. It may take sometime before you find an even keel on what works & that's all fine. Things can and will improve for you.

I take it first thing around 7am, because when I first started taking it, I was so restless! Works for me taking at that time and have been on it approx 18 months now.

Was initially on 50mg, and took it at 7am each day and was fine. I was under the impression taking it in the morning was advisable as it makes one a bit 'energised'. Have recently gone up to 100mg and kept taking it at 7am, but my god, a few hours later I'm washed out and napping before I know it.

I think I'm going to start taking it in an evening, though I'm worried it'll backfire and I'll end up being wired at night! 😬
