I'm still really going through it in terms of this stupid DVT and PE fear. I really feel like I'm going crazy.I have all of these tense spots all over my calf that I can feel pretty consistently as well as some minor swelling in the affected leg. I got a doppler ultrasound on that leg that ruled out DVT, my chiropractor didn't seem worried, and my podiatrist wasn't worried about clots either, told me I overpronate and therefore have muscle tension in almost every muscle group. That's fine and dandy but my leg just feels sensitive to literally everything, seems a little more firm and tender, and isn't necessarily relieved by much. I know the orthotics they gave me were supposed to make me feel sore as they're moving my bone back into place, but I can't ignore the fact that something just feels wrong about this whole thing. Is it just anxiety?
I also have bad costochondritis and feel like I have all of the symptoms of PE: shortness of breath on even minor exertion, back and shoulder tension/pain, constant yawning, etc.,
I don't know what to do and I feel like I'm going crazy.
I think I’m mainly freaked because the swelling started after the ultrasound and I’m petrified of missing something. My parents aren’t concerned and believe nothing is wrong but I’m just not convinced
Hello staywithme99. I 100% understand this fear. My family has a HUGE history of DVT and PE due to MANY blood clotting disorders and it’s terrifying! Since you got the Doppler, I wouldn’t be too worried. Remember anxiety can make you feel a whole array of things and the more you think about something, the more you’ll feel it. As for PE symptoms, the shortness of breath associated with a PE usually happens all the time, and is worsened by exertion. I get SO short of breath just walking at times and I know it’s because I’m not breathing correctly because of anxiety.
Just remember you’ve had it ruled out and your anxiety can make you feel anything and everything you can think of. Now that you know you don’t have one, it wouldn’t hurt to make some lifestyle changes to help prevent a blood clot. Drinking more water and doing your best to stay mobile throughout the day are first steps. If you’re immobile for a while for any reason, you can look into buying compression stalkings to help that blood flow continue. Lastly, elevating your feet at night may help with the swelling and also encourages blood flow therefore lowering the risk of a clot. You’re going to be ok
I would agree about the doppler. I’ve “only” been worried because of the swelling after the fact, though I have spent a lot of time prodding at it and wouldn’t be surprised if I injured it and made it swell up lol
Have you had similar things happen to you? It’s just nagging on the back of my knee or inside of my calf. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a little sciatic in nature as well. I do have a chiro appointment on Monday so I can ask.
Thank you for the words! I’m going to elevate tonight and see if that makes a difference!! Do you just put a pillow down there?
Good points on everything else as well. You rock and I hope you’re well
Oh for SURE. I get cramping in my legs sometimes at night too and that really sets me off. I do just put a pillow down there! Sometimes I’ll put blankets under it to really elevate it.
