Hi I’m a 36 year old male currently in hospital for anxiety and depression. The only meds that are helping are benzodiazepines. I do everything I can think of to help myself, I try and try but don’t feel better. Any advice?

What are they giving you in the hospital to help you?

Hi Andrew,

I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time at the moment.

Do you see a psychologist/psychiatrist? Some people don’t respond to certain types of antidepressants and do better on low doses of antipsychotics. (This is just from me reading up, I have no experience in meds I have a packet of lexapro that I haven’t even started using yet) they can help for severe anxiety and depression.

What are you having a hard time with? Maybe talking it out can help.

Depression is worst in the mornings, low moods that often follow through the entire day. I see a psychiatrist daily, I am on effecsure and rexulti, they are currently trying Prozac. I don’t know what to think. Glad I found this chat. Ativan has given me a little break from my feelings. I try not to take that too often

Is this your 1st time being hospitalised for your mental health? Hopefully the meds will start helping you soon and you can get some relief.

Yes I have found great comfort talking to others going through the same things, it’s hard but good to know you’re not alone.

Hi andrewsg36, I was in the hospital as well when they were trying different

meds and dosages. The answer in feeling better isn't only in the medication but

also with therapy and finding other methods in working on mind change and your

thought pattern. You are in a good safe place where hopefully they will give you

the first big step for you to continue forward.

Welcome to the forum. Wish you well with your recovery. :) xx
