Hello, everyone. My name is Destiny. Im an 18 year old girl. Lately I’ve been feeling as if though the ground is moving under my feet. I went to the ER, Doctor asked me about my symptoms, he says it’s vertigo...But here’s the thing: I don’t feel as if my surrounding are spinning and I don’t feel dizzy. Just a little nauses and it causes me to panic. He also diagnosed me with Menieres. But highly doubt that it’s that. I do have ringing of the ears, but that was 8 months ago, caused by an ear infection. My hearing is pretty normal, but sometimes it clogs up, due to water being in it. Anyways, I strongly believe that maybe I was misdiagnosed with Menieres, and it could be from anxiety. I have felt this feeling before years ago, but it resolved quickly. I just want to know if any of you, ever feel that way, if so, please respond, Thankyou.

DeeGold I'm pretty sure its from your ears, I have the exact same problem. I always get fluid only in my right ear and whenever I do I get the uneasiness you're talking about like the ground is moving underneath you. Take ginger that helps to get rid of that feeling for the most part. Also a sinus infection will cause the same symptoms. I always get fluid in my right ear when I have a sinus infection. I've been to throat nose and ear doctors and they say I'm fine but I think it might be the eustachian tube that might be blocked or something. Good luck I hope you feel better, I hope this helps.
Hi DeeGold, how are you doing these days?
I think you’re right about anxiety being at play… but with other factors. I have the exact same symptoms and, while I have had ear and sinus issues, the issue you’re describing is specifically a sensation in the legs. There may be a connection but I’ve found that the leg sensations and any occasional ear problems don’t occur at the same time at all.
I was even sent for MRI scans of my brain to make sure it wasn’t something threatening! All tests, including blood tests, came back normal.
What did help, following months of physio, GP visits and medications, was counselling with a therapist trained in somatic work.
Some reasons that are far more likely than vertigo for the very specific symptoms you describe:
Anxiety and possibly wearing trousers that have a waist band that’s too tight… anxiety plus something on your body that’s even slightly constricting blood flow/nerve sensation can create a feedback loop that makes your legs feel really out of control.
I’m presuming that you’re not actually losing control of your legs but it feels like you are, feels like they’re moving when they aren’t.
Another possible cause is also linked with anxiety… was there an anxious event in your life where, at the same time, you were sitting in an uncomfortable chair? An exam? A funeral? A long car journey?
A final possible cause is minor but lingering injury to the lower back. This can be helped with movement, yoga, strengthening and stretching, Pilates etc.
It could also be all of the above but in reverse… like the mechanical issues came first and then the accompanying sensations trigger anxiety, which in turn magnifies the sensations, which feeds back to the anxiety and so on…
Working on embodiment work, somatic movement, yoga nidra can really help with this.
Also worth investigating how the psoas muscles are impacting this… in a nutshell, these are the only muscles that connect your upper body to your legs and they are very reactive to “fight or flight” systems.
Look up PPPD!
