Anxious Sunday!

This is my first post so hi to everyone.

I had anxiety issues escalate a few months ago into a full blown nervous breakdown, took a month off work and after countless visits to the docs started on meds (Sertraline and Propranolol). Things settled down for a little while but today I feel very on edge, have that horrible trembling feeling in my chest and can’t get comfortable! Hoping tomorrow is a better day.

PS reading people’s posts on here helps a lot :-)

Trembling feeling in your chest sounds like the serotonin in the Setraline is not working for you , serotonin isn't always the answer

I’ve got a follow up with the doc in a few weeks, also waiting for an appointment to start counselling so hoping not to have to rely on meds for too long

How long have you been taking the Sertraline? Sometimes when starting SSRI’s the anxiety and side effects can get worse before your body adjust to them.

I’m sorry to hear. Anxiety is crippling. Mine has been bad today and am exhausted now

Hi Soma

Sorry to hear how you are feeling. Be guided by your doctor in how long you need your meds for. Coming off them too quickly is a mistake many people make. They can take a few months to work properly. It is the usual pattern to have good and bad days. They have been a real life saver for me.

There is nothing wrong with having to rely on meds. An excellent professor and psychiatrist made a comparison with someone with diabetes who needs insulin with those who need antidepressants when suffering from an anxiety disorder. I can find it and let you have the link if you let me know you are interested.

Although they mostly mask symptoms there is also some evidence now that they can help form new pathways in the brain.

Very good luck

Kim,

I am interested on reading that evidence regarding antidepressants and neural pathways. Can you add a link? Thanks. Carolyn
