Caught in an endless loop..

I have just read the Sertraline can give you heart Palpitations, and now I think of it mine started when I started taking Sertraline..

I'm currently on 50mg 1ce a day and propanolol 3 x 40mg a day..

I have done nothing but fail with different types of tablets since this whole thing started..

Citalopram gave me massive mood swings and stessy as fuck.

Mirtazapine made me hallucinate + Sick.

Amitriptaline made me sleep walk and clench my teeth until it got to the point where I couldn't open my mouth..

Now I believe the Sertraline is giving me heart palpitations and resulting in insomnia..

I really can't see no end to this at the moment, I feel like I keep going back to the doctors is wasting there time, however on the other hand Its quite scary. Led up endless nights scared if the next thud is gonna be it, then panicking if the next palpitation doesn't come..

Really feel like I'm in an endless cycle at the moment with no way out :(

The only thing that gives me a helping hand during the day is the Propanolol but I'm even starting to wonder if they're even helping as I've been on them for months and it's still far from manageable.

It's stopping me from going to work, affecting my relationship and my confidence as a person.

Really don't know how I can go on like this

Some people do suffer bad side effects from meds don’t they? Some can’t even take ibuprofen so maybe that’s the problem then focusing on it makes it worse, probably. I notice side effects too, things like palpitations are not uncommon but maybe you’re just extra sensitive to any drugs? Can you take any meds without difficulties?

I don't normally experience side effects but the only tablets I tend to take from the doctors are anti biotics.. Haven't really needed any more.. Any others tabs I'm normally alright. He palpitations are getting far too much though :(

Hi,

heart palpitations are so scary and annoying. I do suffer from them without taking any other medication apart from propranolol (20mg-40mg as needed). It has been nearly 10 months I am on them nearly every day and to be fair palpitations are still there. So I suppose the drug does help to calm the heart rate a bit but does not get rid palpitations entirely.

If your heart is healthy just try not to panic when they come, let it pass as any other ache in the body.

Keep well

xx

Alot easier said than done isn't it :( I think I'm going to stop taking the Sertraline and see if there is another alternative.. I haven't even been on them very long but the Palpitations are about every 5 seconds when trying to sleep, there's no way I can sleep or not panic, they're far too often.

Really is, scary :( and following the Palpitations I had shooting pains In my heart when I stood up, so that really didn't help things, just seem to be caught in a loop with no way out!

Hello Charlie, I personally do not take Sertraline but my 40 year old son has been taking it for over 5 years. He has not had any side effects, he does work out at the gym as often as he can as he is also bi polar. Do hope this helps, regards Helen.

Palpitations are so annoying and scary, your not alone.

This is a really common side affect. I to suffered from this when I started sertraline and increased my dose but it does go away. I get it every now and then but I think that’s my anxiety. How long have you been on the meds for and at what dose?

Things generally get worse before they get better you need to give the meds time to settle

Into your system which is generally 6-8 weeks sometimes 12 weeks.

Easier said than done with the endless nights 😭 last night was the first 8 hours sleep straight I've had in months so I suppose that's a bonus. I'll try and keep at them 👍 thanks.

How long did it take u to get used to them? And how come you upped your dose out of interest?

I think I'd rather try and stay on 50mg if I can 🤒

I’ve been on it a total of about 9 weeks 4 on 50mg then the rest 100mg. I went up as I felt a bit better but not great. I’m still not 100% but I feel better then I was. I had terrible insomnia in the beginning was dizzy and had the heart palpitations but that has all settled. I still have anxiety but I feel better then I did.
