Ectopic beats or skipped beats in healthy individuals are no cause for concern. Beating your chest will have zero impact on your heart rhythm and will just elevate chest pain and anxiety. Coughing voluntarily also has no effect.

It’s normal to feel scared when these happen and simply trying to calm down will help. You’ll find they’ll increase when sitting down or laying on either side so simply standing up can eliminate them when they start.

I get these regular and the throat feeling is horrible but if your heart is healthy then I wouldn’t worry. However it is more of an annoyance than out else.

I agree with all you said.

As a general rule if your usual resting heart rate is between 60-100 beats per minute and you get occasional palpitations or skipped beats ( ectopics ) then you shouldn’t worry.

In these cases the skipped beats are mostly caused by emotions or stress and reducing this emotion or stress should help very much.

Skipped beats are caused by the electrical part of the heart and not the muscles or viral arteries.

Good luck and hope they pass soon.

My heart rate is always elevated.

I’ve been in hospital recently with tachycardia and all the tests show nothing else.its so frustrating and then I just get sent home.

I’ve had the skips etc since I was 19.but since having my first child 6 years ago they’ve got really bad.

I’m on a beta blocker which helps.

I just try to not panic but it’s so hard.

Do you mind me asking which beta blocker ? And what strength ?

I’m on 10mg propranolol.its fantastic for the butterflies in tummy and the heart racing.

I find that 10mg twice a day is all I need

Same as me then. I’ve noticed that my skipps get worse when my heart rate is already low ( Normal ) and then I add 10mg propranolol it slows it a little more which brings on the extra beats.

Seems like this is my day to talk about magnesium! My husband, 81, active exerciser, heavy coffee drinker, was having frequent heart palpitations, scared him to death, worried about heart attacks. After all the tests by the cardiologist, he was told to take at least 500 mg. magnesium per day. He has done that and has virtually eliminated all his heart scares. (His brother has had 2 bypass surgeries, his father died of a heart attack.) The amount of magnesium needed by the body is not easily gotten by the foods we eat. You need to add it in the form of supplements. With MS we need more as well, and if we have other issues, we need possibly even more. I am trying to take at least 600 mg. per day, along with Alpha Lipoic Acid 200-400 mg, 2000 fish oil, 3000 Vitamin D3.

Yup! It drives me nuts!
