I told my psychiatrist I want to get off xanax and he lowered it by half. I feel like youre not supposed to do that. Im very scared something is going to happen to me. Its only been a day and I already feel terrible.

Ive been on xanax for 3+ years and my psychiatrist just lowered it by HALF all at once
Hi someone, a lot depends on what dose you were on for those 3 plus years. Also,
if it weren't your psychiatrist, I'd question it but he should know you well enough to
get you off Xanax safely. Weaning down from a benzo is about feeling comfortable
enough with the weaning process as well as having the support from your doctor.
If you don't feel comfortable in cutting the dose so quickly, it's best you talk it over
with your psychiatrist. Never up the dose or lower it w/o his advice.
Expect to have some symptoms since your brain got use to chemically being treated
and now it's balking like a child who wants that extra piece of candy. Coming off a drug
may be a little uncomfortable for a while but know that each day you are getting closer
to being benzo free. Good Luck someone. I went through it myself, so I support you in
your decision. xx
Yes it needs to be lowered very slowly. Usually starting by one quarter so u take 3/4 for a couple of months, then half for a few months then quarter for a few months then half of a quarter for awhile... it must be tapered. You cannot stop cold turkey.
