Well for lack of a better word, I might be f@@@@d. Went to the hospital because of the palpitations and apparently my EKG's came back bad. Apparently showing signs of a heart attack but I'm not having any of the symptoms. Had blood work done. Not sure where to go from here. The doc also thinks it it could just be a build up of anxiety and stress, and has given me three benzos to try over three days. So thats where things are now.
Doctor's results.: Well for lack of a better... - Anxiety Support
Doctor's results.
Ah, I read your posts before and I was hoping it was just anxiety! I’m sorry to hear your EKG came back bad But, the good news is that they know what’s happening which means any heart complications can be prevented! Cheer up and good luck
Sorry your EKG came back bad too. Hope u can get the help u need now. And hope u feel better soon. Wishing u the best of good luck to your health getting better sending u a hug 🤗
I understand your looking for support etc. But these sort of posts trigger the likes of me and a friend of mine who’s also on this site. She’s read this and now got herself in a right state as have I. You clearly have maybe an underlying problem with the heart for this to happen. Please in future think before you post
People need a safe and understanding place to post. Your triggers are your responsibility not the poster's. I have many triggers. I get a sense if the post prior and know to skip it, wipe it from my mind.
That’s an unfair comment to the original poster. People come to the site for support. People need to be able to share their health concerns with people on site. Some place safe. If you are triggered, then perhaps you should consider your own reasons why you’re here. Don’t make someone feel worse because of you’re “triggered”.
I definitely agree! This is a safe space for everyone to share their own journey of navigating anxiety. I'll admit, this post also "triggered" me a bit, but I reminded myself that this post isn't about me. The post is from a person needing support from us as a community, so I put my own fears aside to help support this person as I would hope they would support me.
Thanks for the well wishes. I just didn't think something like this could happen at 24 yrs old.
Are you still in hospital?
God I had no idea you could have a heart attack with no pain.
Also if you was showing signs of a heart attack they would be keeping you in for observations and an echocardiogram. I know this as my Nan has had 3 and one of them heart attacks was caused by a blocked valve. Blood work doesn’t mean anything, it’s an echo and keeping you in was what they would of done
They did an EKG which came up bad, if the echo is a different thing, then its because of the fact the rural hospital I go to doesn't have one. But since I wasn't they didn't want to hold me for two hours. As it stands now. Its wait till the results come back then if they're bad too, go to the ER.
Nots not always true. My ex husband was sent away and had to see a specialist a few days later. My parents neighbour was having chest pains and was sent home. She went to a different hospital and had surgery the following morning.
Blood work will tell you if you are having or very recently had a great attack. An echo is primarily for determining heart abnormalities, not blockages...nuclear stress test imaging is a much better noninvasive diagnostic tool as related to causes of a heart attack, and a heart catheterization is the gold standard invasive test to diagnose blockages in your coronary arteries.
Ekg is similar to an ecg. Echo is what is needed with a suspected heart attack. Trust me I’ve actually attended to my Nan and seen the state of her when she had her heart attack, she was on the floor in agony being sick and she said the pain was like an elephant crushing on her. They wouldn’t of held you for two hours they would of seen to you straight away and done everything needed
You are making a lot of negative assumption on this poor guy based on your nan. That’s not fair to anyone and if highly recommend not commenting such negative unhelpful comments until you show proof you were the attending physician for the original poster.
He stated the doctors told him he was having a heart attack and then oh wait doctors say it wasn’t!!! Whatever!!! I’m a trained nurse I won’t have you patronise me!! This is an anxiety support group not to put posts that trigger people!! At least have the decency to put “trigger warning”
I totally agree.many people will state “trigger warning” before a post just so some people can opt out of reading the post.and that’s fair I think x
As a trained nurse, you will know then that bloods DO show something pretty important I.e. elevated troponin levels.
Don’t patronise me sweetheart 🙌🏻 I know my job! And like I’ve stated in previous comments I’m not repeating.
Spot on about the bloods, it's generally one of the first things to do for a "suspected" heart attack, and an echo is not a good diagnostic tool for assessing a patient who may have had a heart attack, but the blood work is a must and will usually be able to determine if someone is suspected of recently having had a heart attack.
TrippyMcGuire, I'm glad you got yourself checked out at the hospital.
Please keep us updated with your test results. I wish you well.
Well, got the all clear from my doc that my body isn't having a heart attack. Still unsure why its happening, but I'm not really in an immediate danger. Thyroid, o troponin I, and CBC with diff all cleared. Also had just a basic check and cholesterol tests, and all are fine.
Well, Cowboy. Good to hear from you. I haven't been here for awhile.
Ok, worked in hospitals before practicng law, so here's my understanding of an ekg and an echocardiogram:
The difference from an ekc (electrocardiogram) and an echo (echocardiogram), is the first measures the electrical activity of the heart; you probably had electrodes attached to your chest and a graph with the pattern of your heart beats was produced.
An echocardiogram is usually a real- time look at your heart to check for physical issues. A flat circular instrument is placed over the area where your heart is located, and images are produced on a moniter...like what OBs do to check on an expected mother to check on the baby she carries.
I have a valve prolapse that freaked out a young walk-in clinic MD a few years ago. I came in because I had an ear ache; he wanted to do this whole panel of heart tests. Made him a deal...asked him to give me the antibiotic for my ear and I promised to go down the street to the cardiologist I knew to check out my heart.
The cardiologist was in, had me lie down, performed an echo on me, said yep...I had a mitral valve that didn't perform perfectly. Also said that I was probably born with it and would die with it (not from it).
So not all irregular heart results mean danger.
What's going on in your life at the moment? Something pushing your stress button? Been awhile since I've been on this venue: are you still in school, working or both? Stress can cause an irregularly ekc....happens to firemen and other first responders occasionally but doesn't mean there is something wrong. After they are taken off duty because their annual test shows an irregular heart beat, a 24 hour halter monitor is worn; nothing shows up. It's just that they go from zero to 100 mph when a call comes in and adrenalin kicks in. Now you haven't joined a first responder's occupation, have you?
Perhaps you could talk to the doctor that assured you that you didn't have a heart attack. He could explain to you. You're a tough dude. You're young and have too much life ahead to worry about this......Think the talk with the doctor will help you lower your concern about all this.
Best wishes for a great tomorrow, and hope you caught the blood red moon several nights ago.
Hi HearYou....so are you saying you have Mitral Valve Prolapse too?
I've had it for many years and I remember when it use to give me
skipped beats, palpitations and occasional tachycardia. No problem
with it anymore once I learned to accept it and not focus on it. xx
Yep. My father had one too. He was in his 90s and that valve had nothing to do with his passing.
Sometimes you can actually hear mine by placing a ear to my chest. The cardiologist confirmed it over 30 years ago. If it does start to regurgitate too much, I'll have it replaced with one from a pig.
Never had any symptoms like yours. The echo was done around the time that real time echos became available. Guess I should have it checked out again to make certain it still closes well enough to be good enough.
Well, you have experience as a first responder; bet that had something to do with you having those symptoms...may not have been your heart valve at all....do you remember if your worse symptoms were doing your career as a first responder?
When I practiced law, we never charged a penny to the firemen and other first responders who were taken off duty and put at a desk.....closer to retirement they came, if any skipped beat, etc. on their mandatory checkups, the more we saw a pattern.
The city or county was trying to discharge them before they could get in their last few years before they reached full retirement benefits. Nasty world sometimes.
So, I found THE cardiologist at the major teaching hospital here who understood the hearts of first responders.......they are different because of that pattern of having to go from "zero to 100 mph" when the emergency call came in.
It was just hard for these folks when I told them we knew the game, and they had to be patient. We had to find ways to tell the city/county insurance adjuster why the IME doctor he recommended wasn't appropriate. And then why the next MD was not appropriate. And then why the next MD wasn't appropriate. Until the cardiologist from the teaching hospital was suggested.
So, after four weeks of offering cardiologists, which we convinced the adjuster weren't appropriate for the IME, the adjuster had forgotten weeks before he wouldn't approve that cardiologist we wanted. BINGO.
The firemen were put back on active duty after that cardiologist interpreted the halter monitor results.
Sometimes life is sweet when we are in the position to stop those bad things, generated for financial reasons, that can happen to best people.
Hey, I am no expert but anxiety can be masked as heart-attack. In any case if there are no pathology with your heart, then that should be ok. EKG can be had for many reasons.
First could do without the profanity, hope you get well.
Look, I'm sorry if the language offended you, but at the time, I thought I could be on borrowed time, so you'll have to forgive my reaction.
I understand you we're scared, but if they said you having a heart attack why didn't they do anything?
Don't overthink it I'm 53 and have Heart funny behaviour since my 20s, ignored mostly, lived a little healthier and I'm still here. Bo Alcohol or Smoking, good diet, mild exercise.
Chill chill chill everyone !. Medicine is advanced now. I have a relative who woke up one morning, had breakfast and suffered three heart attacks and by the end of the day had a triple heart bypass. He is well and good. It may not be what everyone wants to hear but anxiety is just that anxiety.
Personally if I were the OP I'd be taking magnesium because it's the heart mineral we are all need and don't get enough of. Sure you'll be fine but it's a warning to try and think differently when anxiety raises it's ugly head and face it and try your best to relax.
I have had PVCs since age 18. They just blew them off by saying its common in tall thin women. WHAT? WHY? that was 40 years ago. I've learned to live with them. If they get bad I cough hard to reset my heart. It works, Google it. I also realized after "catching" them in progress and got to the ER at about age 25. The blood work showed low potassium. I've since taken a potassium pill when they are bad and it helps. You may have these a long time if you have Premature Ventricle Contractions. Its harmless but bothersome and does show up on an EKG.
my ekg once said i had a prior heart attack which worked me all up. how it was explained to me was machines read it so it's not always accurate. it couldve read funny because of the pvcs. go for other testing to ease your mind. you said the troponin test showed no signs of a heart attack. that's good. did they do a chest xray? ask for a stress test. aside from this scare I think heart wise you're fine or they wouldve kept you.
Good news Trippy! If you do in fact have heart disease the fact that it was diagnosed before a serious health event is a big positive. You can go on to live a normal productive life. Heart disease is very manageable if you receive the proper care. Doctor may want to do a nuclear stress test for more definitive results (ecg is not always accurate)so that you can receive the appropriate care. Heart disease is not a death sentence. Be well.
Your "EKG's Came Back Bad" & Showed You Had A "Heart Attack" ? & They Sent You Home ?* I Hope You Are Posting This IN A HOSPITAL....
Wow ! Then, The "doc also thinks" it it could "just be" a build up of anxiety and stress" ?* Like A "Heart Attack" Is Secondary ?* WOW !* You Should Be IN The Hospital's Heart Unit Getting CT Scans, MRI's, & A Maybe A Heart Cath Procedure Ect....
A "ADRENALIN DUMP" From A Anxiety Attack Is Awful, But A "Heart Attack" Is Deadly.
Prayers For Ya~*
