Anxiety, thyroid or something else?

About 6 years ago I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland and prescribed 100 mcg levothyroxene daily. Shortly after that I started having some issues with reflux and take 20 mg pantoprazole daily.

During this time I started having what I describe as palpitations; fluttering in upper chest. When this happens if I stop, they stop and I can carry on. Also if I cough or burp they stop. Sometimes they happen if I am walking up hill, or if I move quickly from a standing start. What's weird is that if I run on the spot, for example, until I am breathless, no palpitations! I have had several ECGs, treadmill test, overnight heart monitor and nothing shows up with my heart.

To add to this I have recently been told by my Doctor that I have Anxiety, and I must admit I am anxious because I can't get to the bottom of my health issues.

So I have joined this forum to see if you lovely people have any ideas. Thank you x

Maybe the thyroxine is causing your problems.

Have you been re tested on your levels.....might be your meds are too high too low etc.

Too much can cause palps anxiety etc too little can cause anxiety too.

Trouble is sometimes its side effects of the tablet.

Do you get regular bloods done for thyroid .....were they in range .

Hello Kittykat, many thanks for your reply. I do have my bloods tested annually, and I just get told that they are normal. I never get told what the actual figure is so I can see where it is in the range. I'm at my Doctor's on 14th Jan so I will ask her. It might be that I'm at the high side of normal and my Levothyroxene is causing the anxiety and palps.
