Mri scan of brain in 2 weeks .. scared

Hi, I've been suffering from unbalanced feelings for the past year and a half after giving birth to my son, it can be described as a 24/7 sort of swaying feeling with the odd dropping sensation throughout your body.

I've had blood tests and a ct scan and been to a balance clinic, and all was clear

I have really bad anxiety, but before they rule it out as just that I've been referred to nuerology and have a brain mri in 2 weeks.

I'm really scared I might be dying or something and soemthing bad will show up,

Has anyone else had a brain mri for feelings of unbalanced, dizziness etc?

Is it just standard procedure?

I would just like some peace of mind I think.

LucyJane2305, Breathe dear. I went through the same thing as you years ago.

Neurologist, CT Scan, MRIs (2) for the same symptoms as you are experiencing. Off

balanced feeling, spacey lightheaded and sensations that my body was dropping every time I took a step or even just sitting, I would lunge forward.

In my case, it all came from my over sensitized nervous system and ANXIETY. If the

anxiety/stress is severe enough, it will display these bizarre sensations.

Working on your anxiety will eventually eliminate all these scary feelings. One step at

a time Lucy. Keep us update on your results as well as let us hold your hand through this waiting time. I understand how frightened you are but it's going to be okay. Breathe :) xx

Thank you for your kind words and reassurance. I had my mri earlier today, and although I got a little anxious half way through I managed to finish it.

I'm just dreadingthe results now as anyone with chronic anxiety would. How long did it take for you to get yours?

The radiologist said it usually takes a week.

My referring clinician said I could ring him up to find out the results, but I didn't think they told then over the phone.

LucyJane, a week is about right in getting back the results. Give yourself credit for getting through the MRI today. Good Job! See, we are stronger than we think we are.

Both physically and mentally. Your clinician might have the clout to get the results a little sooner. The doctor has priority in getting the results sooner by calling in. Good Luck. I won't tell you not to worry since that is a "given" for anxiety ridden patients.

Keep us updated on your results. Think Positive Lucy. It will be okay. xx

Thank-you agora1. It's just the waiting that worries me so much.

I saw my clinician months before I had my mri, but he said to ring him a few days after I had the scan done for the results, so Do you think that ringing him means that it will be something bad? Or is it normal to be told them over the phone?

Sorry for all the questions.

I have one doctor who realizes how anxious I get waiting for results and so he always calls me personally (not his nurse) and lets me know everything is okay.

If your clinician told you to call after a few days, that is fine. The answer will be the same whether you call him or he calls you. And that is "Everything is Fine" then you can breathe a sign of relief. xx We're here to reassure you as many times as you need to hear it. :) xx

Hi, I just got my results back today and they were normal which I'm really relieved about.

I just have a nuerology appointment left now which is on the 16th of December. My consultant referred me to that before my mri, so now the results were normal I'm wondering what they may do at the nuerology appointment.

What did they do when you had yours?

Hope You're well.

Hi LucyJane, congrats on the results of your MRI. Take a big sigh of relief.

Everything is going to be okay...One step at a time. As for my Neurology appointment it was nothing more than the usual "touch your nose" "follow his

finger with your eyes" and "checking reflex responses" There was nothing invasive done. I wish you well. Stay Positive. xx

Thank-you. I definitely feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

I will try to not worry too much about it then, I'm just worried they may do something with my jaw, and I get quite anxious when it comes to things like that, it doesn't help that I've fueled my worry by looking up things online.

X

LucyJane that's a big "No, No" in looking up things online. x

It's too generalized. Wait until a professional sees you and gives

you a true answer and not a generalized guess. We're here to support

you in your wait. Breathe xx

Hiya. Yes I experience bad dizziness with my anxiety. I had a brain scan last December and it came back clear. I hope that reassures you? Dizziness and balance is quite a common symptom with anxiety. It's very horrible. I also have had tests etc

Thank-you for the reassurance, I had my mri earlier, how long did it take for you to get the results?

Hi Hun try not to worry easier said than done I know but working yourself up will make your symptoms worse, I think it's good your going to see a neurologist as this will be a more thorough examination I'm guessing so I wish you good luck with your results what ever they may be. I experience the same and I was sent to ENT specialist and had MRI on my head all came back clear but was then diagnose with vertigo by the ENT, hopefully you will get some reassurance soon that it's nothing serious I wish I could see a neurologist because it will be a more thorough check but try to stay calm so that your anxiousness doesn't make your symptoms worse, have you tried magnesium? Very calming once in your system properly . Good luck 💜

Hi. I got my mri results back today and they were all clear. I've also seen an ENT and been to a balance clinic to rule out anything ear related. I hope you're dealing with your vertigo ok! And Thank-you, I may give it a try.
