Endoscopy tomorrow

Anyone conducted an endoscopy before? How does it work? What do you feel? I'm scared that i may get a lot of side effects and make my muscle pain worst than it already is.

I've had about 3, I even woke up half way through one. It's nothing. You get knocked out with a sedative and wake up later with no after effects at all. The pipe is very small, so you don't know you've had it. That's it.....

Thanks for your help .. Internet mentions heart complications and problems with breathing as possible side effects and that is scaring me.

Narr, nothing like that at all just drowsy. I was out by 2PM and felt high for a good few hours after but nothing afterwards like heart complications or breathing issues. It's a very small pipe camera and you won't see it anyway, I only got to get a look at it because I woke up half way through, but he just said " shut your eyes " I did and woke up in bed. The doctor came round and have me the results which were negative nothing there and said I should take up mediation and I was discharged.

Seriously, those side effects would apply to any procedure that requires a sedative. The chances are slim, and I guess hospitals have to cover themselves.

Karlbezz, I had an endoscopy 2 years ago, absolutely nothing to worry about. They spray your throat and are offered a tranquilliser. All over in a couple of minutes, no pain, you hardly feel a thing. No after effects either. It is not a frightening experience, believe me.

The tube is thinner than a pencil. You'll be fine.

I think you are googling way too much. It's an easy test.

My husband had one on Monday. He has had one before. All he said was....'I hope they have those fabulous sandwiches and great cup of tea, like last time'. ! they did ... absolutely nothing to report about the procedure. Like he said, I've got nothing to say as I was asleep. He was bright as a button when I picked him up. No after effects, except he did say he felt like he had the best sleep in ages.

saturn2k, It sounds like your husband and I thought more about the food afterwards then the procedure. By the way, the meal was delicious. :) xx

Tell me the time, I'll be there. xx

I've had two endoscopies 7 years apart and it's literally nothing. They sedate you. They have you put a gown on, start an IV, then sedate you. Next thing you know you wake up feeling groggy but remember nothing. You won't feeling anything residual other that being sleepy from the medication. I went home and took a nap and felt fine.
