well they found GERDS, gastritis and a hernia but they this MIGHT be the reason why I’m in pain. But honestly idk if i even have those. I keep losing weight and those don’t have anything to do it with it. For the biopsy unfortunately they couldn’t get much because he said I bled easily so he didn’t really wanna do anything a lot of biopsy’s ..

Vanessa, I've had two and both times I was sedated, it was a short procedure

and I felt great after it. Even in being able to have a regular lunch.

I wish you well tomorrow..stay positive and know that we are right there supporting

you. You can do this. You will be okay. :) xx

Reassurance is okay.. it will build up your confidence and you will

be able to do this knowing others before you had it done as well.

You are not alone. Hugs :) xx

Yes and I elected not to be sedated!

I was nervous of the sedation and I didn’t want to lay around in recovery, be able to walk out straight afterwards rather than hang around being monitored.

That was my choice and I noticed I was only 1 of 2 out of the 15 people in the waiting room who chose this option! I admit that did get me panicking a bit at the time!

The nurses were lovely and the doctor doing the procedure was gentle and kind. They squirted a numbing spray, that tasted like bananas, into the back of my throat, I had to lay on my side, while a plastic thing was fitted into my mouth to keep it open while they passed the tube down. They warned me I might gag as it passed through a certain section, which I did a bit. A nurse held my hand throughout.

It was not a great experience, uncomfortable and I did deep breathing, but it was over quite quickly. I was awake the whole time, heard them talking about the procedure but nothing unprofessional or anything to make me worry.

Afterwards, I was able to walk out of theatre into the waiting room by myself, while I was waiting, I saw those who had sedation being wheeled past on a bed and having to stay in the clinic for a couple of hours to recover having their vitals monitored, which was my worry, but then we each have our own concerns.

After about 15mins waiting, one of the nurses called me to a private room and went through the preliminary results. They didn’t take any biopsies so I would not need to wait for those results but that a full report would be sent through and my doc would call me to go over the report and any further steps if needs be in about 7-10 days time.

From start to finish, including a bit of waiting time I was in the clinic for just over an hour (procedure itself was about 20mins) and was able to walk out pretty much straight after the procedure and get on with my day. If you opt for sedation I would allow for maybe 3 hours.

Yes, it was uncomfortable, half way through I did ask myself why I on earth did I do it without sedation but then it was suddenly all over, so that thought and discomfort didn’t last long. With sedation, one probably won’t feel a thing.

I have also had a colonoscopy with sedation which just relaxed me rather than knocked me out completely which, while not a delight, also wasn’t so bad.

I’m not a brave person, I suffer horribly with health anxiety and have dreadful palpitations which I worry about all the time such that it affects my daily life.

I think the worry and build up to the procedure is probably worse than the procedure itself.

The medical team have got this and will take good care of you.

This was my experience which I wanted to share with you and hope puts your mind at ease.

Good luck and best wishes with it all. Praying the results will also be good for you.
