So this is kind of new but the last week I literally can’t sleep . I feel totally wired , body buzzing . So so tired in the afternoons and when I’m home I can’t even have a nanny nap , I just can’t settle . The feeling inside of me is so different . I just feel so agitated at everything !! So not at ease . Also I’m feeling very teary . Anyone else have this ?

Maybe not exactly like this, but I certainly have experienced times of struggling to sleep/restless sleep etc

Sometimes you just need something to break that cycle. Have you thought about seeing a doctor for a short course of sleeping tablets? Just to try and get you back into sleeping.

Or creating a sleep routine for yourself. Relaxing music, bubble bath, lights off, technology off, for an hour or so before you go to bed . When I went through a period of really bad sleep (caused by anxiety) a year or so ago, I bought myself some really nice bath stuff, would put out my pyjamas (it was winter - I actually had them on the radiator to make them warm), pull back the bed sheets, then go and have a bath with nice bath stuff. I had some little fairy lights in my room so when I went back to room they were the only lights on - no big bright lights but enough to see what I was doing. I created a relaxing music playlist for myself which I would put on at a low volume. Turn the lights off and then go to bed.

Sounds silly but after a few nights it really did start to work - place the emphasis on trying to relax rather than trying to sleep. In my experience, the harder you try to sleep, the more awake you become as it becomes frustrating and you become very aware of time passing!

Eleanor Rose I actually got a keeping from my dad today and will take it tonight and see how I go . And yes going to see the Dr .

I really like about the bath thing . I have tried calming music but I have to have silence when I go to bed lol . But will do some more meditation maybe ?

I don’t have lights on when watching tv and go to bed in the dark . Thanx for your idea xx

Hope you find something that works for you. Just try different ways of relaxing. I’d even be tempted to say don’t watch television in bed/just before bed. I’ve often read things which say that is a bad idea - think it can overstimulate your brain and keep you awake. Just try your best to relax and don’t worry too much about the sleeping bit - it will happen!

Totally agree with you EleanorRose. Strive for relaxing and sleep will eventually follow. x

Hi Jodz!

According to a study lead by the Center of Disease and Prevention,

35% of American adults are getting less than seven hours of sleep. This can be due to overweight or obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and frequent mental stress.

But in a less serious case, you may just be stressed out. Do you work a lot and often? Is there something always on your mind that’s making you anxious? Do you have difficulty focusing in school and is it bothering you if so?

Another thing that can cause restlessness in bed is blue light. Blue light comes from screens like our phones, TVs, and tablets. Kindles are made to be less stimulating with blue light, as many people read on them before sleeping. Do you fall asleep with the TV on? How soon do you put away your screens before bed? This is the most likely reason if you are not aware of any health conditions. If you use a screen before bed, try putting it away a little earlier and relaxing with a book.

There may be some catergories that I am not aware of, but I really hope this helps!!!

I really hope this gets better. If all else fails, ask a doctor about taking some melatonin gummies before bed.

What are they ?

Melatonin helps people sleep when they’re brains are stimulated by blue light and electronics. They are offered in most general stores, but if you are under the age of 16 it is best to talk to a doctor instead of taking the children’s gummies. Adult gummies are for people ages 16 and up.
