Dizziness, spaced out, derealization

Hi,

My symptoms all started in April this year, when I woke up one day and felt dizzy and spaced out like I was in a bubble. I went to the doctors and they told me I probably had a virus and it would go away. It did go away for two weeks and I was fine and back to normal.

After two weeks the symptoms came back again which was very strange, I was fine one day then the next day I wasn’t. I went to the doctors again and had blood tests done and everything came back okay, they told me they don’t know what’s wrong and it could be anxiety.

It’s now end of July and the last month has been horrible, I feel spaced out, dizzy, sick most days and just don’t feel connected to the world, it’s seriously getting me down.

I went to see someone about anxiety and I’ve been doing a CBT online course but it’s really not working. Deep down I think there is something wrong with me other than just anxiety.

If anyone has felt the symptoms I’ve had please can you let me know what to do, I just want to be normal again.

Grace

Thanks for replying. Yeah I am trying to do that. Did you do anything else to help it? We’re you on meds?

Myself two years ago came down with a severe case of vertigo. I don’t know why but feeling dizzy and out of control sends my mind into the worst anxiety. The thing is when it happened I did not know it was vertigo. I had numerous mri and blood work done and everything came back normal. After the first attack of vertigo, the next month I was always feeling a touch off, a little bit dizzy, around the clock. I do feel a lot of that was from my anxiety taking over of how scared I was when it happened and scared that it would come back. I kept thinking well what happens if it comes on again and the extreme dizziness never goes away. Bottom line, I finally was ok with it , and after a few days magically my slight dizziness went away. Anxiety is our demon and we need to learn how to shut it out of our life. I pray you find a way to do the same

Hi Grace. Yes, it is anxiety. I have exactl’y the same symptoms. After years of suffering, I finally went on medication. It did the trick.

Hi Grace! Have you been tested for mono and let disease? If not, I strongly encourage you to request these tests.

No I haven’t been tested for those, I’ve never heard of those diseases before. I just really think it’s something else other than anxiety as I was never anxious before this all started in April

It could be, but the thing is that there are many chronic infections that activate the sympathetic nervous system, which is what causes us to experience the physiological affects of anxiety. So while it may be anxiety, the anxiety may be a symptom of an illness rather than the primary cause. Mononucleosis and Lyme disease are very common and 2 of the primary infections in which anxiety symptoms are early indicators. These are simple blood tests your doc can order for you. The two week flu symptoms at the beginning that you describe is a textbook description of the acute stage of a chronic infection with these 2 organisms as well as HIV, syphillis...and basically every other organism that causes chronic infection in humans. You don't need to be alarmed, it doesn't mean you're dying (just keeping the health anxiety in check, lol). It's similar to the way the chicken pox virus lays dormant in the nervous system and manifests 30 years later as shingles.
