Was it a fit?: I laid in bed Googling when I... - Anxiety Support
Was it a fit?
Hi Nora-B, I was just talking with someone on the forum the other day regarding this exact feeling that comes over us for just moments and then it's gone. Unfortunately it leaves behind fear and shakiness, wondering "what happened"??
I've had it happen many times but only when I'm on the computer, ironically scrolling. I believe it has to do with the brain trying to keep up to what our eyes are seeing on a lighted background. It's like a rush to the top of the head and yes I would hold onto my desk as well. I feel it less if and when it should happen now. I drink some water to hydrate, turn to some meditation and deep breathing to settle my mind from the event.
You are okay, you are safe. Just one of those quirks. xx
Thank you for your reply. Very comforting. I remembered I had had this before.Scared the wits out of me then. I should have known not to spend so long Googling. You described it wonderfully. My neck and shoulders feel tight after too. Does that happen to you? I must remember to drink more. Thanks again.xx
Yes Nora, my neck and shoulders are where I carry my stress. Hydrating is super important in allowing the muscles to function properly. I've noticed when I get tense
I tend to jut my head forward while looking at the screen causing more tightness.
A quick relief of the tightness for me is to throw a large bath towel in the dryer for 10-15 min. Then wrap that towel around yourself covering your neck, shoulder and chest.
Find a comfy place, have a hot cup of something to relax your nerves and read a book or watch tv. That will reduce the stress and fear as you deep breathe and fall into peace and calm. Works every time for me xx
Hi !Agora1. Am trying not to overuse technology as I have been having more and more issues I browsing and came across your response to my earlier posts. How are YOU? Have you ever had the feeling that ypu were unable to.move? And do you suggest any eye symptoms? I thought I was havimg a stroke. I had an eye.test. Would optician have been able to tell if I had. Take care and keep sage Inhave to get off the device. already my shoulders ate hurting and my eyes just do.not like having to squint.I pray 2021 i gets better for all 🙏🙏
Hi Nora Technology has been a blessing during this time of social distancing but it always can be a curse. It's making so many people present with aching shoulders, neck and eye problems. Add to that the Pandemic issues and you have the flame that ignites the fire.
The more we use the cell phone, computer etc, the more we respond to the strain already put in place from the day before. Since I'm on the computer every day, I make sure I take time to relax my eyes by looking at a distance every now and then
in order to relax the back of the muscles of the eyes. Hydration is important as dryness can affect the eyes as well.
As for the shoulders, watch the posture that you are in when typing on the cell or computer. Are your shoulders being held stiffly up to your ears. Give yourself a
tension break by dropping those shoulders down and relax. I use a how towel right
out of the dryer when shoulders and neck get stiff. It helps calm the pain down.
Try not to overthink your symptoms. It's a stressful time in our lives.
Happy New Year Nora! Wishing you well xx
Thank you Agora1. I have had some physio.which helped. he said irritated peripheraI nerve. I wiil try your suggestions. I was worried whilst I was on laptop ordering flowers for my sister's' funeral my arm suddenly went weak. when I went to stand my whole body went weak and for a few days I could hardly walk. Then came light sensitivity and weird eye symptoms. Optician found nothing worrying just the very start of cataract. She has given me a number to ring if thing get worse. Oh and surprise...dryeyes. Add a stinking cold into the mix I feel pretty useless and not a pretty sight.A diffetent form of migraine was suggested. It can just go away as far as I am concerned. Happy.New Year to.you too xx
Nora, I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Please accept my sincere sympathy.
I had also had physical therapy that helped break up trigger points in the neck and
shoulders. You have a lot of stress in your life right now but always contact your
doctor for professional advice, since he knows your complete health history.
Take care dear Stay safe. xx
Hi Nora-B, there are balance sensors in the neck area. Neck tension can cause vertigo (spinning). Sometimes we don't realise how much we are 'holding' ourselves. I have continuous balance problems and sudden vertigo, at times. I have tension in back, neck jaw etc. It does give you a fear jolt, but it's harmless.
Thank you veganese. 'Fear jolt'
That is a very goid way to describe things. There are many forms of dizxiness and I have experienced most of them from time to time. Sometimes when I am out shopping I will suddenly feel as though a strange force is pushing me sideways. It is a bit like a chicken and egg situation. Which comes first the dizzy bit or the anxiety? II only know I would not be so anxious if I never had these moments. I used to do neck exercises which helped so must start again. I have been seeing a physio. Not NHS so gets expensive. He said that there are many simple things that can cause dizxiness and I appear to have all of them, including the neck tension. What chance do I have? And yet when a doctor recently made me stand in front if him with my eyes closed I did not sway in the slightest and he noted "no dizziness" I have yet to try Agora's remedy to relieve neck tension. Sounds very comforting. How do YOU deal with your symptoms?
Doctors! Don't get me started. They wouldn't, for 4 years, refer me to hospital, saying I 'didn't present the necessary symptoms'! I eventually begged - firmly. I had BPPV - crystals in ear canal, which was remedied by Epley maneouvers. If you have damage to you vestibular system, eg infection or BPPV, the brain tries to reajust/compensate. Physio told me that the balance system drops in efficiency and has to me 'boosted' by Vestibular rehab. exercises. Standing with feet together for 2 mins, then with eyes closed, progress to standing on thick carpet, cushion etc. When walking my dogs, I try to look to the left for 5 to 10 secs, then look right. Walking on rough, uneven surfaces. All these things challenge the brain to correct. Stress does have an impact, of course, and as you say it's chicken and egg with regards to anxiety. Losing the fear makes a difference. Yesterday was a really busy day for me. MY car was in for repair and in order to borrow my daughter's, for the day, I had to drive her to work - in the city. Took dog to vet, had my grandson for tea - and over night. I was so tired. When making evening meal, I could feel my balance slipping. Spongey floor etc., but I knew it was fatigue and all the driving I had done. Acceptance!
Thank you. Shall try these things also. Among other things I had labrynthitis a few tears ago. When I was feeling a bit better I went to physio anout a back pain and told him about the dizziness I had been having. He made me lie back and then he turned my head to one side asking if I celt dizzy then. I said "No but I can feel my eyes pulsating". T "That's because you are dizzy" he said and then he performed some manoeuvre on my neck and the pulsating stopped. Maybe that is the procedure you were talking about. Was wonderful. Yes. Know the 'spongy floor' thing too. Acceptance is the key as you say..
Yes, that's Epley. This is the first movement of Epley, when they lie you back with head turned, they check for nystagmus - movement of the eye from side to side. You would have felt a spin sensation. The complete Epley follows with moving head, body in a sequence, and finally sitting up. My neck/shoulder tension is bad right now. I have some work to do!
