Bp fear

Well ive been battling this off and on since a Doctor scared the day lights out of me back in 2002 I was 49.

Funny docs dont tie menopause to bp spikes etc.

So now im 65 and started with the fear again of taking it and it jumps really high then triclkes down but not low enough.

Just putting on the cuff makes me panic now and I try breathing and relaxing at no avail.

I did start a low dose of Losartan but even with that I cant calm the obbesion.:(

I have been taking chinese meds and accupunture for almost 9 years and it saved my life with symptoms but this has a hold on me anyone else out there been there?

Ive had numbers jump to 238/110 then second and third readings come down sometimes to 150’s or 160’s even a 139 :(

This sounds just like me - I'm sat outside the doctors at the moment trying to calm myself. Feels like an adrenaline rush every time I even think about having my bp taken. Also started with bp spikes at the menopause but unfortunately then had a cardiac arrest at 52 with no previous symptoms other than the bp issue. I wish i had an answer but can only sympathise with you.

Im so sorry you had the cardiac arrest at such a young age.

You know I have a couple of paper back books by claire weekes and she also has audio and I have those to not expensive if you like ponder looking it up.

She is long gone but she wrote such amazing words concerning fears , anxiety and even adresses BP fear.

Im going to dig those books out again ponder it last time I had this fear about 4 years ago it helped me immensely.

Ill pray you find peace and surpass all this.

Thanks for replying to me.

God bless and heal you

Thanks for the kindness! I've read claire weekes but maybe I'll pull the books down and re-read. Best of luck.

I get bp anxiety too. I go in expecting myself to get freaked out and then keep thinking about the reaction I’m going to get when they see it is high. I have gotten a bit better about it. I keep telling myself it’s just a number. I do not check it at home as often anymore because I was becoming obsessed with it and only ever wanted to check it when I was worked up.

Somewhere Claire Weekes writes about a patient who was told that his high blood pressure meant he was 3 times more likely to die of a heart attack. Sounds fairly definite, doesn't it, 3 times more likely.

But then Claire Weekes pointed out that the chances of dying prematurely from heart attack are 1 in 70*. So with high bp tripling the chances of a heart attack the odds were now 3 in 70* - still stacked heavily in your favour of reaching a good age.

Yes, we should check our bp at home say once a month and if the doctor advises bp tablets take them and lose weight and eat and drink healthy, sure. But a triple chance of having a heart attack is not the death sentance it seems!

* I have chosen 1 in 70 because I can't remember the exact figure but it was of that ilk.

Hi, sounds exactly like me. Have been diagnosed with high or spiking BP some time ago but can never tell if it’s the stress or the bp reading... just thinking that i’ll take my bop makes me tense.... I have made lots of changes in my diets (replaced salt with pepper and spices, stopped caffeine, reduced sugar, added hibiscus tea, betroot juices) but readings still spiking and always panic when doing the readings...

So gp gave me Losartan today... (in minimal dose I think...) but list of possible side effects is pretty discouraging... :-(

I have issues with spiking as well. I will just put on lisinopril. It works pretty quickly. Sometimes I think it is BP but sometimes I think its just how I react to the bp reading. My doctor has lost patience with me

What's your highest reading been. I really freak out when I got 200 and think I am having a stroke

I went on losartan 25mg 3x a day can’t take it all at once it bothers me.

I have given up on taking my BP been dealing with this for years so last May have in to the meds for now until I lose about 20 lbs and also I do believe now my anxiety makes it spike so I’m working on not taking life so serious.

I’m a mom and grandma so I’m learning to try not to worry about things that life throws at me and trying to live one day at a time.

Hope this helps you.
