Help.. Bad memories/thoughts, terrible anxiety and a tight feeling in my chest before falling asleep.

Sometimes when I'm about to fall asleep I'm awakened by bad memories of things that happened to me in the past and I get a tight feeling in my chest combined with this terrible, terrible sense of doom/dread.. Sometimes it's not even bad memories it could just be something I watched on the news or internet that made me sad, and those thoughts are combined with the same tightness sensation in the chest and the amplified feeling of doom/dread that this actually happened.. It happens when I'm not awake but not fully asleep, kinda like when I'm transitioning between the two stages. I hate it so much, I wake up gasping for air and putting my hand on my chest as a way for me to calm myself down. I'm not exactly at a great place in my life right now and I don't know if this has anything to do with it.. did anyone have a similar thing happen to them? Please let me know that would help me a lot.

I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’ve had that happen as well. I am haunted by things that have happened in the past. I try to tell myself that the past is the past and we can’t change it. But we have the ability to change or even write our future. At one point it got so bad I went to the doctors and got an EKG and everything was normal. I looked it up online and I found pounding heart anxiety syndrome. Every day is a new day. What happened yesterday doesn’t have to happen tomorrow. There are something’s that we can’t control but I’ve had many people tell me not to dwell on the past. Take each day as a brand new day, a fresh start. I know anxiety is really tough. I’m having a lot of trouble currently. Also surround yourself with positive people. You don’t want to be around people who are bring you down. I hope this helps a little. Just hang in there. This website/app is the best thing I’ve ever come across. Everyone on here are all here for you. Stay strong and think positive.
