Okay so I went to the er a few mins ago for my tight throat, it feels tight like I can't eat or anything without almost vomiting or losing breath, so the doctor tells me I am having an allergic reaction to a medication I have taken before and it never did anything. She prescribed me prednisone and Zyrtec to take for allergies. I have anxiety now thinking I will die from anaphaletic shock, can an allergic reaction g OK away on its own? I'm scared to take steroids because they make my heart race. Please someone tell me if this can go away on its own.

Allergic Reaction?
Oh wow. Sorry to hear thats what it was. I experienced an allergic reaction for the first time in my life wvwr as well about a month ago to some food. However i didnt have the tight throat reaction. I broke out in hives. So i can imagine yours is much more scarier and will make you worry. But i took some benedryl for my allergic reaction which it helped. But I would only think that an allergic reaction could probably go away in time but it would take much more time to go away. So its a tough decision because I too would have been afraid to take a steroid shot or whatever. I kept thinking about the anaphylactic thing too the whole time i was going through mines. But I guess you have more of a tougher choice becuase your throat is tightening up. I dont think you would want that to prolong or take forever to go away on its own. So i hate that i cant give a definite answer as to which would be best. I hope you do feel more at ease now that you atleast know its an allergic reaction and hopefully you'll feel better. I'd ask them if the Benedryl would calm the symptoms until it goes away if you dont want to get the steroid shot. I hope this helps. If you haven't already got help.
Carrie,
IF possible, I suggest that you call a doc that you can have a relationship with to guide you through these tricky waters.
I respect how you feel about this and I believe that you have every reason to feel the way you do right now. Establishing a relationship with a doctor who you trust will really help you get through this.
WHY?? Because when you establish a trusting relationship with a doc, a GP, or an allergist, or a physicians assistant, they will educate you and assure you that if there is a "real" problem they will be there for you to guide you about to what to do and when.
Reach out to someone, and keep reaching out until you can feel secure.
