When you say 'flickering under ur eyes' Mari - do you mean like lights flashing - flashing lights ? People also get 'floaters' in their eyes which has caused me lots of anxiety yet it turns out that does happen with people, especially as one ages.

I have had eye challenges my entire life and eye issues have caused me stress and anxiety, big time.

What i have done is write down when and what happens with my vision and then talk to the eye doc, if my vision is seeming to get worse or something.

just some thoughts M - hope its helpful, realeyes

I have very bad vision with aniexty like I get the blurry vision or like it looks like my vision flickering or if I look at something that’s busy looks like it’s moving I’m over this shit

I’ve had these too. Mostly the looking at busy things that look like they are moving. I’ll feel off balance or dizzy with a slight wave of nausea sometimes, too.

Marisol, I've had visual symptoms associated with anxiety for 50 years, could write a book about it. I would say that with your history of anxiety the flickerings are anxiety based but I can't be sure I've experienced this flickering effect at the bottom of the eye. However although it's a bore I strongly recommend you get the back of your eyes looked at with a slit light opthalmoscope from an eye doctor whom your general doctor will refer you to or go to your opticians or any opticians with a proper opthalmoscope and ask them to check the back of your eyes for reassurance. Because you're not going to be relaxed until you hear the magic words 'Everything's fine!'

jeff, could describe your vision issues. I have always been dealing with anxiety issues. It was usually situational anxiety, but a few years ago while I was taking care of my dad and rushing around trying to get my kid to school, I had what seemed to be like double vision. It lasted about a minute till it returned to normal. I was terrified. I ended up having an mri that was normal. Since then, I have had it a few times. I have had eye exams and an echo of my heart, but nothing has turned up. I went for a couple of years without getting it. When I get it, it lasts for about a minute. Yesterday when I was doing some computer work it happened again for about 10 seconds then corrected itself. Have you ever had anything like that. It terrifies me.

No problem, thanks for the reply. Incidentally I had one of those scotomas, last week. I had a tooth pulled and was put to sleep. Later in the day the bright sun triggered this lightening bolt pattern in my vision that was present when I closed my eyes. So frustrating all these weird things that have been going on with my body. Aggggh

No Marisol, never had double vision, but as you've had your eyes examined and an mri and it went away for a few years then I think you can safely say it's anxiety. The best way to handle it is to accept it when it happens, accept it completely and without fear because anxious nerves thrive on fear. Accept it for the time being, this is the method for recovery from anxiety disorder advocated by Claire Weekes in her first book 'Self help for your nerves' available from Amazon. This book which was written 50 years ago has helped untold thousands to recover from all the symptoms of anxiety disorder.

As for myself, I have experienced: a shimmer along shiny horozontal surfaces, photophobia, black marks when I blink and look at a white background and scintilating scotomata (the visual disturbance that migraine sufferers experience but I never have headaches, it lasts precisely 20 minute).

I do hope that telling you these symptoms won't plant ideas in your mind🙂

The important thing is not to fight your symptoms as fighting only causes more tension and fear hormone that sensitive nervous systems thrive on. So when they happen feel yourself relax, make every muscle in your body go limp including your jaw muscle and imagine there's a muscle in your brain and let that go limp too, then just let the double vision come without adding second fear to the flash of first fear and relax and accept and let it have its few minutes knowing full well from your years of experience that it can do no worst than this and will pass as it always does.

In this way your anxiety symptoms will die of neglect because you no longer react to them with fear and the hormone of fear.

I second this advice. Well written. The more you can convince yourself it is your anxiety since medical issues have been ruled out, the less you’ll freak out. You’ll eventually just think, okay that’s my anxiety. Nothing to worry about. Acceptance helps a lot. I think it can even help reduce frequency.

Marisol, as luck would have it I had an episode of scintillating scotomata this afternoon, it followed the usual zigzag pattern and moved from the centre of vision off to the left whence it disappeared taking as usual exactly 20 minutes. Although I've had these for 40 years 2 or 3 times a year and I know them to be benign and stress related I looked them up on Wikipedia.

Whilst doing this I read about some variations and one fits your 'peripheral flickering' symptom, it's called Peripheral Scotamata. It's nothing to do with your eyes, it's to do with the nerves at the back of the brain. Like my Scintillating Scotamata it's benign and a symptom of stress (I was doing some paperwork I find stressful when I experienced it).

It cannot damage your eyes and it is benign, it will probably come and go from time to time but if you can recover from anxiety it will bother you less.
