General anxiety Disorder - functioning but knows the struggle.

For as long as I can remember I have had anxiety. On and off. Some months I feel great, I can get up go out and do anything. Other months I spend each day fighting panic attacks trying different techniques and pills to stop the anxiety along with the unwanted side effects (for me it’s chest pain and stomach ache). As I’ve got older, progressed in my career, had a family and so forth the worry about the side affects has increased and this has lead to me worrying about getting the side effects before the anxiety has started which then brings on the anxiety. Over the years I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on the side effects and tried lots of pills for the stomach, pain killers for my chest and head, changed my diet and much more but I’m now at a point where I know there is nothing wrong with me. I have anxiety and it’s the anxiety I need to cure to relieve the knock on issues. With the support of my wife I’m now being more honest with myself, with her and with friends and family, not hiding the anxiety or panic attacks like it’s somethkng shameful but facing it. I have various things such as mindfulness I am working on and I’ve increased my exercise, working on the cause not the effects. Time will tell but I finally feel I’m on the right path to fix something I have had to battle for as long as I can remember.

Have you tried magnesium glycinate ?

Nathan1984 in reply to

No. I’ve not heard of it. What does it do?

in reply to Nathan1984

Its really good. It's a natural mineral with anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effect's. I swear it's the best thing I EVER took. I suffered anxiety and depression for years and since taking one tablet a day I'm totally different.

Non addictive, natural and is good for your health.

Drs Best brand chelated magnesium, Amazon sell it.

Thank you Joey21. I will be ordering that now. I’ve tried all sorts of probiotics which do nothing, HTP5 to help me sleep but it’s debatable if that ever worked either. Are these stomach friendly? Looking at amazon reviews people say they help prevent a bad stomach so looks a win win!

in reply to Nathan1984

Yeah, just start at half a tablet on a night after dinner and build up to what ever you like ( max 4 tablets a day ) You'll not believe the difference in you.

I have no problem with my stomach, just make sure you take it with a meal. Chilled out, happy mood, relaxed and best of all your mind is like a flowing river and nothing rocks it.

Sounds just what I need! Thanks Joey21 they are now ordered. I’ll let you know how I get on. I have a week away in Feb away from the family that I’m dreading so this could be a big win. Many Thanks!

in reply to Nathan1984

That voice, that voice that says " oh no!! I'm dreading it, this will happen that will happen will be glad when it's over !! " Well that voice gets silenced and you never hear it again and your allowed to actually enjoy life. It's strange at first because you've heard it for so long you're used to it being there.

That’s exactly it. I’ll be excited about something but at the same time I get the negative voices saying “but what if” and all of sudden I’m feeling rough and making excuses. I go very tense and get very stressed. All over things people do every day. It’s so frustrating. It affects every part of your life even to the point of searching for that switch to just stop the anxiousness.

Oh yes hello ha! yes still taking them life is good even my dizziness has reduced so glad I started taking them thanks for your advice. We're do you get the spray from?

in reply to daisy-17

Make your own I do. Buy some magnesium flakes from Home Bargains for £3 and you can find plenty of videos on YouTube on how to do it, is easy.

Failing that, Holland and Barrett or Amazon.

But works out massively cheaper making your own and you can vary the strength too.

Hi Joey. Mag tabs work well. I’m taking one in the morning and one in the evening but I’ve read I should be taking 2 tabs at a time - I got the best doctor ones, how do you take these?

in reply to Nathan1984

Magnesium glycinate I only take one a day. Do you live in a sunny country, if so and you get enough sun then you're ok. If not take a small dose of Vitamin D and also a 100 mg of vitamin C. Both of these help with bioavailability in the body. Vitamin D and magnesium can seriously lift the heaviest of depression within an hour.

Take 1 a day and build up to 4 if you want. Is no set amount, each to their own.

Oh, and buy a multivitamin with iron and take it once a week.

I agree. It's been up and down for me also. Since I had a child and moved my symptoms have gotten worse. This last week for instance I can't sleep all of a sudden. Waking up all night. But I try and bring the anxiety closer to me. Listen to it. Try not to run from it.

I think with having kids I’ve had a fear that the anxiety makes me look weak. That along with the fact I don’t want my kids to grow up anxious. I like all parents want them to be better, happier and healthy and I often feel that showing anxiety will give them a fear of the world they shouldn’t have. So hiding it becomes a daily chore, adding stress and worry and keeping the anxiety ever more present. BUT I am hoping with focusing on techniques to think differently this will soon become a thing of the past... 🤞

Good for you. I've spent the last 6 months using Claire weekes methods. I read her book and I felt instant relief. Now however I'm still trying her method of acceptance and understanding second fear.

I’ll give that go. I’m working on mindfulness which is helping hugely it’s just putting things into practice when the chaos strikes 😀

I feel the same. Sometimes I think I can feel a pain in my chest. And yhe pain becomes real. As soon as I can realize, it is already in my left arm. I did loads of tests and the doctor said my heart is fine.
