Can you really have an middle ear disturbance for about 5 months? That causes tinnitus and dizzness, or is it something more serious. Im truly sick and tired of it now and i wont be seen by the ent until March, I've been waiting since November! :(

I have been having it for a year. It sucks, but it's anxiety. My ears buzz and sometimes I have vibrating in my ears. Usually happens at night when I am laying down or when I am truly focused on it. It sucks, but it won't harm us. We have to learn to ignore it, relax, and let it go away on its own.

The doctor said there's fluid in my ears and there's pressure on my left eardrum, so I don't think it's anxiety, but it does make me feel worried

Oh okay, did he give you some ear drops? Don’t worry- that will surely heighten your anxiety. Inquire to your doctor about something to release the fluid from your ears.

No, she gave me a spray for my nose though, but doesn't seem to have done anything, I need to see the ENT doctor but I won't get my appointment until March

I’ve had tinnitus for several years and nobody knows why.

I’ve had tinnitus for a long time. Also I got told my anxiety was causing me to feel dizzy many times. I went and saw an ear doctor privately I actually have an imbalance on my left side which is causing it. Hope you get sorted soon!

Look into ‘tonic tensor tympani syndrome.’ It’s an anxiety related condition that can cause many symptoms such as tinnitus, vertigo, the sensation of fullness in the ear, sensitivity to noise and many more. Treatment largely revolves around managing the root cause of the condition, anxiety. I had the same diagnosis as you, my GP said there looked to be fluid present but when I went to the ENT, I was so anxious that it was actually the ENT consultant who first diagnosed an anxiety disorder. I was hyperventilating and was so utterly terrified I remember struggling to actually stand up out of the seat in the waiting room. Anyway! I’m much better now thank goodness.

The description of tonic tensor tympani syndrome is as follows, but of course there’s plenty of info on the internet.

“Tonic tensor tympani syndrome is an involuntary, anxiety-based condition where the reflex threshold for tensor tympani muscle activity is reduced, thus causing frequent spasms.”

Interestingly, there has been a link identified between tonic tensor tympani syndrome and misophonia ( the aversion to certain sounds.) So that may explain why some of us find certain noises totally intolerable. I personally can’t bear people chewing :)

I hope this helps.
